S&ME is seeking Construction Materials Engineering Technicians of all experience levels to join our team in Charlotte, where you will have the opportunity to work on high profile, challenging and rewarding projects throughout the metro and surrounding areas. About The Role:

As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you will spend most of your time outdoors, participating in projects and ensuring their integrity and safety. Your contributions will be recognized as you witness projects come to life and gain valuable expertise. This role is ideal for individuals looking to enhance their skills in construction materials testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials while gaining additional industry certifications. We want to gain valuable experience by obtaining additional certifications, allowing you to take on more complex testing, and mentor younger technicians as you grow in your career.




  • Review Plans and Specifications: Ensure seamless alignment with on-site observations by thoroughly reviewing construction plans and specifications.
  • Document Field Activities: Record field activities, observations, and testing results using Metafield and other information management systems.
  • Perform Quality Assurance Services: Conduct quality assurance services following applicable standards (FAA, DOT, ASTM, and/or AASHTO).
  • Communicate with Stakeholders: Maintain daily communication with management staff, general contractors, and clients to foster trust and transparency.
  • Conduct Testing and Inspections: Perform and observe testing and inspections of construction materials, including soil, concrete, and asphalt, to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.



About You:



  • You have a High School diploma/GED
  • You have experience testing and inspecting soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials (such as slump, density, air content, temperature testing)
  • You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • You have math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • You have One (1) or more active certifications, is a plus:

    • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
    • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
    • DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete





You Are Willing and Able to:

Perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:



  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sites
