Clinical Research Assistant I - Complex Exposure Threats Center

HJF is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant to perform data collection by conducting research interviews. The Clinical Research Assistant will recruit and screen subjects for research studies and collects baseline and follow up data from subjects. This is the first of four levels of clinical research assistants and works under the guidance and direction of senior staff.

This position will be in support of Complex Exposure Threats Center (CETC), a sub-center of the Washington DC War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (WRIISC). The WRIISC develops and provides post-deployment health expertise to Veterans and their health care providers through clinical programs, education and risk communication, and research.

  • Serve as a team member for CETC related research studies; attendance in relevant research meetings.
  • Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and organization of data, and maintaining databases. Makes detailed observations on experiments.
  • Applies quality control measures as outlined/required by the protocol.
  • Assist in completion of related statistical analyses and report generation.
  • Assist in the writing of research findings and development of new projects objectives.
  • Helping with research administration, including managing budgets and grant funding; serving as consulting reviewer for peer-reviewed journals; and analyzing organization/operational problems, making recommendations and developing/implementing solutions.
  • Follows instructions and standard operating procedures to perform expected tasks. May provide basic instruction to other lab staff.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.


Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.
  • Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.


Physical Capabilities



  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.


Work Environment



  • This position will take place primarily in an office environment.


Compensation



  • The hourly pay range for this position is $28.25-$23.90. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
