This is a full-time remote role for a Senior Engineering Project Manager at Covia, this person would be ideally located in the following metropolitan areas: Houston, TX; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Atlanta, GA; Philadelphia, PA at the candidate's home office. The expectation is for the Senior Engineering Project Manager (SEPM) to travel as needed and up to 50% of the time to successfully execute the position. The Senior Engineering Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing engineering projects, including coordinating project teams, ensuring project timelines and budgets are met, and communicating project progress to stakeholders. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, operations, procurement, legal, EHS partners, construction managers and 3rd party organizations to ensure successful project delivery.

The Senior Engineering Project Manager (SEPM) will provide stewardship via general engineering support inclusive of engineering design, equipment specifications/diagnostics and process system review. The SEPM will manage the capital governance process for their assigned projects across all five stages of the project lifecycle represented by all FEL stages from initial conception through substantial completion & full acceptance.

The successful candidate will have the following Key Accountabilities:



  • Carries out varied engineering assignments requiring general familiarity with broad field of engineering and knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other fields.
  • Lead projects from requirements definition through deployment, identifying schedules, scopes, budget estimations, and implementation plans, including risk mitigation.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure that projects adhere to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ability to complete cost estimates and project schedules as well as to ensure timeliness in the completion of projects of high quality within budget.
  • Analyze project status and, when necessary, revise the scope, schedule, or budget to ensure that project requirements can be met.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant client stakeholders, providing day-to-day contact on project status and changes.
  • Ability to problem solve using a combination of standard methodologies, processes procedures or best practices.
  • Participates in planning and/or preparation of technical electrical and mechanical specs for internal review to achieve prescribed objectives.
  • Ability to perform commercial and technical bid analysis and make purchase recommendations.
  • Assign and monitor resources to ensure project efficiency and maximize deliverables.
  • Report project outcomes and/or risks to the appropriate management channels and escalate issues, as necessary, according to project work plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


The successful candidate will have the following Minimum Qualifications:



  • BS in an engineering discipline.


  • 15+ years of manufacturing across the following industries: mining, oil & gas, chemicals, heavy machinery, automotive, cement, glassmaking, metals, food & beverage industry experience
  • 10 + years of combined service acting in the capacity of a project engineer, project manager, project controls engineer / manager, Sr. Project Engineer, Sr. Project Manager, Sr. Project Controls engineer / manager
  • Demonstrated success of executing multiple projects from development through commissioning & start-up (FEL 1 to FEL 5)
  • In-depth understanding of the FEL process and the general deliverables associated with each FEL Stage (FEL 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5)
  • In-depth understanding of AACE cost estimate methodology, project accruals, asset classification for financial closeout
  • In-depth understanding of the procurement process and separation of authority
  • In-depth understanding of capital governance process and delegation of authority
  • In-depth understanding project change management (project change categories, project change vs. contractor change)
  • In-depth understanding of the bid process from contractor pre-qualification to contract award
  • In-depth understanding of general project management KPIs and project reporting (weekly reports, monthly reports, dashboards, etc.)
  • In-depth understanding of risk management (risk management process steps, risk matrix, risk strategies, etc.)
  • Exceptional management and people leadership skills to drive decision making; in addition to being well organized specific to document management and presentation delivery
  • Exceptional team coordination and stakeholder management skills (oral and written communication)
  • Strong ability to develop project deliverables through active engagement with project team members (owner's engineers, 3rd party engineers, operations, environmental, procurement, legal, commercial, capital planning, capital governance etc.)
  • Strong ability to drive project deliverables through development and execution across multiple workstreams and escalate to senior management as necessary
  • Proficient in the following software (MS Office Suite, MS Project, Outlook, Sharepoint, Navisworks, Power BI, SAP or similar ERP software, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
