The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for a Police Officer in the Campus Police Department. Police Officers provide professional police service to the University community. They have responsibility for enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth, the policies and regulations of the University, and providing a secure environment for the members of the University community. They perform technical activities, enforce laws, respond to emergencies, control traffic and crowds, prevent crime, and provide other services that are essential to the core responsibilities of the police department. These are armed, sworn positions. Officers patrol independent of supervision, independently identify problems, and determine a response based on their judgment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Experience: Must be 21 years of age or older. Excellent Written and verbal communication skills. Must have skill to handle firearms and operate a motor vehicle safely. Applicants must demonstrate responsive, approachable, and courteous engagement with the community. The ability to maintain a calm, balanced perspective, and successfully complete duties in a stressful situation is essential, as is the ability to analyze situations and use good judgment. Strong oral and written communications, including writing accurate reports, testifying in court, and interacting with a diverse community is required. Salary is negotiable based on experience.
