Job Description

The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. Veterinarians throughout the Midwest refer animal clients to the Veterinary Health Center for specialized diagnoses and treatment. With sophisticated therapeutic equipment that includes an underwater treadmill, advanced imaging techniques, and groundbreaking equine lameness diagnostic equipment, we are a center for animal healthcare.

We are seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our Equine service. Our facility, located at Clydesdale Hall, provides state-of-the-art teaching and medical services, including ambulatory services. In addition to regular check-ups and preventive health care, we feature cutting edge surgical and intensive lifesaving medical care.

Job responsibilities will vary depending on clinic need, and could include:

  • Assist with medication administration, lameness exams, foal care, emergency care, dentals, and ophthalmologic exams and treatments.
  • Provide support during procedures including serving as a surgical technician, administering sedation, performing venipuncture, and assisting with radiology needs.
  • Accompany faculty, house officers, and students on ambulatory and field calls.
  • Assist with biosecurity protocols.
  • Other duties and assigned.

This position requires on-call emergency duty and includes heavy lifting and physical work.

Shift

This position is a full-time, 40 hour a week position. Primary hours are Monday through Friday, 8a to 5p with some on-call emergency rotations that would include evenings and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technology Program.
  • Licensure as a Registered Veterinary Technician in the State of Missouri, or eligibility to obtain Missouri Licensure within 6 months after start date.
Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with equine or large animals is preferred.

  • Detailed-oriented and well organized to take medical histories, carry out instructions, document patient statistics and update records.
  • Enjoy working with animals and have the ability to comfort, handle and restrain large animals.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Hiring range begins at $19.00 per hour for new graduates without a license and $20.00 per hour for those with a license.
