The Role

As the Head, Mass Market Fundraising & Engagement, you'll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. This is a senior role within the leadership of our Marketing Communications and Fundraising Division (MCF).

Working in partnership with the Head of Marketing and Head of Communication and Media teams, you will deliver an integrated fundraising approach that generates income and builds deep relationships with supporters. You will set the vision, ambition and strategic direction for a cohesive approach to engaging our priority audiences to deliver long-term, sustainable and flexible income and engagement. The Head will ensure that our propositions, supporter experiences and omni-channel fundraising approach are driving maximum impact for Save the Children now and in the future. Additionally, you will lead and develop a team of brilliant, specialist fundraisers who strive for excellence, giving our supporters inspiring experiences through both our acquisition and donor development work.

What You'll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Strategy



  • Develop and deliver individual giving and engagement strategy in collaboration with Mass Market Fundraising & Engagement leadership team, with a strong focus on maximizing supporter growth, income goals and engagement metrics.
  • Ensure effective short, medium and long-term objectives are encompassed in the strategy to provide an effective roadmap for long-term organizational goals around net financial growth and deeper supporter engagement.
  • Ensure our strategies take us to sector best practice whilst always creating space for further innovation to get to the next best practice.
  • Lead a robust testing and optimizing agenda that constantly focuses on creating more impactful fundraising and engagement results.
  • Collaborate closely with other leaders within the division to ensure that Brand, Marketing, Audience, Content, Data and other critically enabling team strategies ladder up to help the Mass Marketing Team deliver their own goals.
  • As part of the MCF Senior Leadership Team contribute to cross-functional and wider division and organizational strategies.


Leadership



  • Manage a team of 30+ members and oversee substantial marketing budgets (+ $40M), ensuring effective allocation and optimization to achieve organizational revenue goals in excess of $100 million.
  • As a member of the Senior Leadership Team proactively partner with the Head of Communications and Head of Marketing to deliver best integrated fundraising campaigns - breaking down silos and working as one team with a shared vision.
  • Provide inspirational leadership to a strong team of marketers, fundraisers and specialists to enable Save the Children to fulfill its income goals, supported by effective talent management.
  • Ensure effective line management of the mass marketing team with clear accountabilities, effective work planning, performance management, talent development and succession planning in place.
  • Ensure the team are constantly developing their knowledge and skills so we can continue to be ahead of the sector.
  • Build and maintain external relationships within the sector and with partners, vendors, specialists and be an active part of fundraising and marketing ecosystems.
  • Ensure effective stakeholder management for mass marketing activities so that the goals, investment plans, performance and context in which we are operating are clearly understood.
  • Lead on cross-functional projects and initiatives as required by the Chief Marketing Officer.
  • Train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise staff, clearly communicating organization, division and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission, ensuring that the working environment is continually supporting Save the Children values.


Fundraising Program Management



  • In partnership with acquisition team lead, oversee and optimize our go-to-market planning and execution by embedding rigorous and constant channel optimization using campaign management tools, elevating best practices, optimizing content operations, incorporating lessons learned into fundraising, and operational ways of working.
  • Ensure there is an effective and diverse portfolio of acquisition programs in place that balances the needs for volume and return on investment across cash gifts and sustainer giving, in particular focusing on our key programs of Face to Face, DRTV, CTV, Digital Marketing and Mail - whilst always looking for and testing new channels.
  • With support from mid-level team lead, oversee development and growth of mid-level program.
  • Oversee the development and growth of our Mid Value and Special Gifts programs with the aim of growing and optimizing this segment of our supporter base.
  • Ensure an effective cross-functional retention team, strategy and monitoring are in place, which strives to deepen supporter engagement with exceptional supporter experiences, seeks to save every supporter from being lost, and prioritizes organizational efforts in optimizing those activities and processes that will deliver the greatest return.
  • Ensure our mass market programs are audience centered and data-led with common ways of working across teams and division to give supporters seamless experiences across all their channels and touch points with the organization whilst setting up the right pipelines to maximize donor lifetime value.
  • In partnership with Business Technology Solutions (BTS) and MCF stakeholders, stand up effective program performance reporting and processes, ensuring it is always evolving to enable constant optimization and an effective view of overall team performance for senior decision makers.
  • Work to embed digital and data excellence in the mass engagement approach, improving user experience, optimizing channels and innovating for new impact.
  • Actively engage with peers across the Save the Children movement to leverage and contribute global knowledge, skills and resources to deliver greater impact for children.
  • Drive best practice partnerships with our key providers and agencies so that we are the preferred client, our supporters get the exceptional experience we expect and that we have effective performance management and cost structure to deliver to our goals.


Required qualifications for the role



  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 15 years of relevant fundraising experience.
  • Proven track record in developing, delivering ambitious mass market fundraising plans and leading high performance fundraising teams.
  • A passion for fundraising and for the mission of the organization.
  • Proven track record in inspirational leadership that has driven significant growth in individual giving.
  • Demonstrated experience with driving high quality supporters through a range of donor acquisition channels such as F2F, Direct Mail, Digital, and Telemarketing.
  • Experience in best-in-class supporter retention & development and engagement plans to improve engagement and loyalty.
  • Strong skills and experience in developing and driving robust testing and optimizing programs.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex data and make strategic decisions.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying information clearly and concisely to a range of stakeholders.
  • Proficient in managing and engaging diverse stakeholders, building effective relationships, and facilitating discussions and decision-making.
  • Skills in strategic planning and development, with a focus on long-term objectives and the ability to translate these into actionable plans.
  • Demonstrates a high level of adaptability and responsiveness to changing circumstances and environmental conditions.
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English


Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:



  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $188,700 - $210,900 base salary


  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $171,700 - $191,900 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $154,700 - $172,900 base salary


The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record. Actual base salary may vary based on, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here).
