Department of Student Affairs, School of Medicine Job Description
The Student Affairs department at the School of Medicine is seeking a dedicated Financial Wellness Counselor to support over 800 students across multiple degree programs. This role is ideal for someone who is student-centered, proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to make a meaningful impact on the financial well-being of future healthcare professionals. In this role, you'll provide personalized financial counseling, lead scholarship processes, and collaborate with campus partners to deliver comprehensive financial wellness services. You'll also stay informed on national trends and advocate for resources that support student success. In efforts to provide comprehensive financial wellness services to School of Medicine students, this position also has a dotted line reporting structure to the UMKC Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. Key Responsibilities * Lead financial wellness services for over 800 students in the School of Medicine from admission through graduation across multiple degree programs. * Identify and support students facing financial challenges that may impact academic performance or personal well-being. * Provide one-on-one counseling and group education on financial aid, budgeting, debt management, and loan repayment. * Promote and integrate resources such as AAMC FIRST and the UMKC Financial Wellness Center, a component of UMKC Financial Aid and Scholarships office. * Lead the School of Medicine's scholarship processes, including marketing, application, review, and awarding. * Monitor trends and regulations affecting student finances and communicate implications to stakeholders. * Advocate for financial aid resources and appropriate distribution to support student needs. * Collaborate with the UMKC Financial Aid and Scholarships Office to assist students with loan options and financial aid navigation. * Serve as the liaison to military branches for students receiving military scholarships. * Participate in university committees, including the UMKC Fee and Residency Committee. * Foster collaboration across student affairs units to ensure holistic student support. Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Education, Business, Finances, or related field preferred. Three years of experience working within higher education administration or financial wellness is required. Ability to keyboard proficiently and comfortably in working within multiple data systems is necessary. Anticipated Hiring Range
$21.71 - $24.90 per hour, commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity. Application Materials
