Description

The Academy School Safety Officer Lieutenant is responsible for the oversight of the School Safety Officer division and daily security operations within the Lipscomb Academy Upper and Lower Schools. The position will also work to develop strategic safety plans, foster relationships with Academy stakeholders, external law enforcement entities, and other school safety divisions at appropriate schools for the overall safety and well being of the students attending the schools.

Fulfill any/all responsibilities and expectations for the position of SSO. (See Below)



  • Supervise daily Academy Security Operations
  • Work with the SSO Officers to develop, enhance, and operationalize emergency action plans through coordination with Academy faculty and staff. (ie. fire, inclement weather, active shooter, etc.).
  • Supervise regular emergency preparedness drills, including conducting, evaluating, documenting, and improving.
  • Actively work with the University Security Director of Operations to develop and enhance patrol procedures, protocols, and training.
  • Regularly audit and evaluate procedures, systems, and facilities, and actively engage in developing and enhancing these areas in coordination with the University Security Director of Operations, Associate Head of School for Operations, and Academy personnel.
  • Actively work with the University Security Director of Operations and the Director of Communications to understand and implement communications technology, protocols, and training, as it pertains to the Academy campus.
  • Coordinate the weekly/monthly SSO schedule to maintain optimal coverage.
  • Approve incident reports submitted by SSO officers in assigned areas.
  • Upon reviewing incident reports submitted, conduct follow-up reviews of the reported incident if applicable.
  • Properly address interpersonal disputes that may arise with personnel.
  • Respond to and manage crisis situations that may occur within the Academy campuses.
  • Conduct Operational planning for Academy sporting events, graduations, concerts, school sponsored social events in coordination with the University Security Director of Operations.
  • Be onsite Security Incident Commander for academy sporting events, graduations, concerts, school sponsored social events as needed.
  • Act as the point of contact for Lipscomb University Dept. of Security Chain of Command for all issues related to Academy security operations.
  • Attend regular Dept. of Security Supervisory meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Lipscomb University Security Director of Operations to schedule SSO officers for regular training.
  • Collaborate with the Lipscomb University Security Director of Support Services to document all security training completed by SSO officers.
  • When/If training deficiencies are noted, recommend remedial training in cooperation with the University Security Director of Operations.
  • Coordinate the training of new SSO Officers in assigned areas.
  • Coach & Mentor SSO officers in the areas of SSO patrol operations, team development, personal development, and professional development.
  • Cultivate and maintain a positive working relationship with the Lipscomb Academy administration, faculty, and staff.
  • Work with the University Security Director of Operations to request additional security resources for any special events or other needs at academy campuses.
  • Conduct Performance Reviews of officer's work product.
  • Support the values, mission, & vision of Lipscomb Academy and University.
  • Promote Lipscomb Impact 360 to SSO officers.
  • Present in-person training for faculty and staff in-service in coordination with the University Security Director of Operations.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly Academy administrative meetings
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, as appropriate. (MNPD School Safety Division)
  • Maintain current certifications and licenses, in coordination with the Security Director of Operations.
  • Actively participate in department training (including but not limited to firearms training, less lethal weapons, de-escalation, active shooter, vehicle operations, officer safety, etc...)
  • Liaison with Private School Security Directors within the greater Metro Nashville Area.
  • Engage in additional duties as set forth by the Security Director of Operations or the Executive Director over Security.


Requirements:



  • 3+ years of experience in security, law enforcement, military, corrections, or combination
  • Have Active Tennessee Armed Guard License. (Preferred but not required; completion in house)
  • Understanding of basic communications software and technology (preferred but not required).
  • Understanding of basic K-12 security operations (preferred but not required).
  • Have a valid Tennessee driver's license.
  • Pass background check and drug screening.
