PURPOSE: Ensure the safety of guests, tenants and team members by monitoring, and patrolling with and without K9 partner to minimize risk at Mall of America as well as detect and prevent explosives and firearms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:



  • Monitor and patrol to minimize risk at MOA as well as detect and prevent explosives and firearms.


  • Lead and participate in Mall of America detection sweeps as well as sweeps at other locations and events when contracted.


  • Patrol MOA property with or without your canine partner including Mall common areas, service corridors and parking lots.


  • Enforce Mall of America policies, investigate and search premises for suspicious activity, and deter criminal or destructive behavior by maintaining a highly visible security presence.


  • Maintain the mental and physical health of the canine while on and off duty, including feeding, cleaning, exercising, housing and keep records of all care and feeding of the canine.


  • Maintain a sanitary environment for canine partner both at home and in the department kennels.


  • Complete a minimum of four hours of canine training per week and maintain documentation of all certifications, training logs, and paperwork.


  • Follow Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and Minnesota state regulations when utilizing training aids that contain firearms or explosives.


  • Participate in various public relations activities, including handling and presenting the canine during meet and greets, social media events, and special events.


  • Maintain a professional presence during events, and while representing the K9 Security department and Mall of America on and off property.


  • Regularly carry equipment including handcuffs, pepper spray, tactical baton, and a conducted electrical weapon (CEW).


  • Write detailed and accurate reports as required, including incident, accident or personal injury reports.


  • Utilize radio for clear and detailed communication with Dispatch, Supervisors, and other relevant staff.


  • Regularly work independently, responding to dispatched and self-initiated calls as required.


  • Request and assist Police, Fire, and EMS services as necessary.


  • Perform duties of a Patrol Officer when K9 partner is kenneled.


  • Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, high volume days, mandatory overtime and short notice special events.


  • Additional duties as assigned.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:



  • High School diploma or equivalent.


  • Must be at least 21 years of age.


  • Must possess a permit to concealed carry a firearm, or able to obtain a permit to carry.


  • Pass an ATF background check and obtain clearance to access explosive materials through the ATF.


  • Pass the USPCA or similar certification course with canine partner and recertify annually.


  • Pass Mall of America Patrol Officer certification.


  • Must possess a valid driver's license.


  • Strong listening and verbal and written communication skills.


  • Able to remain calm in stressful situations, utilizing rational thinking and decision-making skills.


  • Maintain an adequate level of physical fitness to perform duties effectively.


  • Post-secondary education, law enforcement/criminal justice emphasis preferred.


  • Previous military, law enforcement or security experience preferred.


  • At least six months experience training or handling a working dog preferred.


  • Basic knowledge of federal, state and local law preferred.


  • Training in first aid, CPR, and related public safety skills preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member will frequently be required to speak and listen to guests in order to understand their needs and communicate a solution. Team member must also possess a level of hearing that will continuously allow them to be aware of their surroundings and recognize when a guest needs their attention. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Team members are required to be able to tolerate multiple sensory stimuli at once while performing their duties. These stimuli may include: loud auditory/noise, smells/olfactory, bright lights, colors, motion, and other visual stimuli.

  • Use of both hands is required to perform duties and maintain safety standards

Starting pay:

$22 - $27.11
