We are looking for a Field Medical Lead (FML) Rare Disease US - West to lead a team of Medical Science Liaisons, who inspire, and model cooperative teamwork behaviors to join us in our Neuromuscular Rare Disease team, based in our anyone of the following locations Colorado, Texas, California, Arizona, Utah and Washington.
About the role
The Field Medical Lead's primary accountability is the leadership of the neuromuscular rare disease Medical Science Liaison (MSL) team for the US West region. Through direct line management of MSL team members in the field, the FML will ensure excellence in capability, consistency, and execution of MSL activities within each ecosystem as part of a matrixed team. Additionally, this role will provide medical presence, leadership, coaching, and accountability to drive individual and team results.
FML will demonstrate leadership responsibilities through the recruitment, development, and management of MSLs. Develop and implement a field medical plan, and create group and individual measures for performance and development for the team. Enable the MSL team to be accountable for creating and coordinating field medical plans within a matrixed field organization, and executing tactics independently as part of the medical function
Who you'll work with
- Align and collaborate with matrix partners to empower MSLs as medical leaders and partners in the field
- Establish and reinforce strong collaboration and direction to the medical information team to ensure prompt delivery of standard responses to external stakeholders
- Establish a presence within the region with external stakeholders (e.g., opinion leaders, advocacy leads, key decision makers) through regular participation in conferences and field meetings with their MSLs
What you'll do
- MSL Leadership responsibilities: medical delivery, external engagement, matrixed cross-functional work etc.
- Recruit, onboard, develop, coach, mentor, and manage the performance of the US neuromuscular MSL team
- Develop and implement aligned MSL training curricula in collaboration with local and global partners
- Share goals/priorities/KPIs for the MSLs with matrix partners in execution of the yearly medical plan and US objectives
- Ensure implementation of the field medical plan and monitor performance vs. objectives
- Coach and model high impact scientific engagement with stakeholders, and delivery of scientifically supported value propositions
- Ensure a clear process and seamless collaboration with the clinical study management team to support clinical studies
- Engage regularly in the field (quarterly) with MSLs and external stakeholders as part of team leadership and customer engagement
- Ensure goals are accomplished within boundaries established by regulatory, legal, and compliance in accordance with company policies, processes, and sound ethical practices
Interested? For this role we're looking for the following education, experience and skills
- Doctoral Degree (PhD, PharmD or MD degree required)
- 7+ years of demonstrated field Medical Affairs experience
- 2+ years managing a field medical team
- Leadership skills in managing, developing, coaching and influencing teams in a matrix environment
- 1+ years of experience in neurological therapeutic areas experience
- Ability to travel 50% time or greater
- Residence within the West Region
Preferred Experience
- Experience in myasthenia gravis or other neuromuscular diseases
- Demonstrated strength in medical tactical plan development and implementation in the field
- Effective communication, presentation, and engagement skills, including mastery of the English language
- Digital Literacy
- Demonstrated negotiation, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- Scientific acumen and the ability to translate scientific and clinical data into a value proposition for different stakeholders
- Business acumen and focus on delivering customer value and impact
- Understanding medical governance and compliance, and the ability to apply them effectively
This position's reasonably anticipated base salary range is $181,00-$238,000 annually. The actual salary offered will take into account internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors
