Job Description:

The HR Generalist is responsible for supporting HR and talent management functions and processes for attorney and professional staff populations in an assigned region. This position works with various teams within HR to support daily operations, manage the onboarding and departure processes, and serves as a point of contact for HR-related topics and personnel matters. A hybrid work schedule is available for this position.

Location: Los Angeles, CA

  • Build and maintain effective, positive relationships with personnel at all levels of the firm.
  • Facilitate new hire integration, lead orientation sessions, and manage onboarding documentation and processes.
  • Coordinate communications and logistics for arrivals, departures, office transfers and other personnel changes.
  • Lead the offboarding process for professional staff, including conducting exit interviews, and supporting attorney departure procedures.
  • Collaborate with firm-wide attorney and professional staff recruiting teams, contribute to a positive candidate experience and participate in various interview processes.
  • Serve as a trusted point of contact and resource for employee inquiries, concerns, and policy interpretation. Address routine employee relations matters with professionalism and discretion.
  • Assist with the performance evaluation process for associates, counsel, and professional staff.
  • Support and execute HR initiatives including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, leave, disciplinary matters, work arrangements, wellness programs, recognition and morale efforts, occupational health and safety, and training and development.
  • Recommend new approaches and process enhancements to continually improve team efficiency and raise the level of service provided to internal clients.
  • Understand, adhere to, and implement firm policies. Review policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Assist with audits and maintain required postings. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and emerging HR technologies in talent management and employment law.
  • Contribute to various HR initiatives and committees as needed. Partner with HR Coordinators and colleagues across the Regional HR team to plan and execute a variety of strategic and operational initiatives.
  • Perform other responsibilities and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of experience in HR, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources (or a related field), or commensurate work experience required. HR certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with ability to work independently and take initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and effectively resolve conflicts.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply new knowledge to practical issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Solid understanding of federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of core HR functions and best practices.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable using various video conferencing platforms and collaboration tools, such as WebEx Teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to other offices as needed.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as needed.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:

  • Los Angeles, CA: $70,000 to $100,100

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
