The Role:

Our site in San Luis Obispo, CA.is seeking an EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) Specialist. The position will be responsible to foster world-class EHS culture through best practices and compliance excellence at our manufacturing plant in San Luis Obispo, CA with occasional direct support of our Fremont, CA facility.

In this fast-paced environment, you will partner with leaders and employees to enhance workplace safety, ensure adherence to health and safety laws, maintain and reinforce policies, and identify opportunities for improvement in workplace conditions and safety programs. Creative problem-solving and attention to detail are vital to successfully analyzing challenges, recommending solutions, and driving safety & environmental initiatives forward

What You'll Do:

  • Implement site environmental, health, safety, and security procedures to align with Corporate EHS policies and goals.
  • Ensure compliance with CALOSHA, EPA, DOT, DTSC, and other regulatory agency requirements through transparent partnership and due diligence.
  • Conduct risk assessments and collaborate with departments to establish safety best practices.
  • Monitor adherence to safety procedures through inspections and direct observation of employee activities.
  • Develop and implement standardized inspection checklists to systematically identify and close safety gaps.
  • Apply creative problem-solving to recommend innovative solutions for workplace hazard reduction, improvement opportunities, and new incident prevention measures.
  • Support enhancements in job safety analysis (JSA), ergonomic assessments, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE evaluations, applying attention to detail to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Manage and maintain compliance documentation, ensuring timely completion of EHS reviews and execution of associated tasks.
  • Assist with both Site Level and Global EHS projects across safety, physical security, environmental, sustainability, and occupational health initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

What We Seek:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, occupational health, engineering, environmental science, or a related EHS technical field (equivalent experience considered).
  • 5+ years of experience in managing EHS programs successfully.
  • Subject matter expertise in chemical safety, industrial hygiene, electrical safety, energy isolation & control, confined spaces, emergency response, and hazardous materials & waste management.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to develop innovative and effective safety strategies.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure thorough compliance assessments.
  • Experience in manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills to engage employees and leadership effectively.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

Outstanding candidates will have:

  • ASP or CSP certification.
  • HAZWOPER 40-Hour.
  • QMS/EHSQ Management Software Experience (i.e. Intelex, Reliance EtQ, Enablon).
  • ISO 45001 and/or 14001 experience.
  • Safe Start facilitator certification.

  • Compensation: $75,500-$90,000/yr range with actual pay dependent on candidate overall skills for the role.
