General Purpose of Job: Perform the gross dissection and description for all types of specimens submitted to the laboratory for the pathologic evaluation. Perform the frozen section at the hospital and Mobile Laboratory. Assist with other duties in the histology section. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position. * Prepare, examine, dissect surgical and/or autopsy specimens submitted to the laboratory, including highly complex tissues. * Dictate the gross description of the surgical/autopsy sample according to accepted guidelines and under the direction of the Pathologist. * Perform gross dissection and description of tissue submitted for the frozen section, * Cut the tissue for the frozen section using cryostat, * Stain frozen section slides with H&E stain, coverslip frozen section slides, * Operate slide scanner in the Mobile Laboratory * Drive the Mobile Laboratory as necessary Job Requirements

* Graduate from a Baccalaureate Pathologists' Assistant program OR successful completion of a post Bachelor's program from an approved school of Pathologists' Assistant OR Bachelor's degree in sciences with background in physiology and anatomy with a minimum of three years' experience in pathology OR Employed by Sparrow Health System as a Pathologists' Assistant prior to May, 2017 and has minimum of 8 years' experience under a Licensed Pathologist grossing highly complex surgical tissues. |
