We're seeking a future team member for the role of Vice President, Municipal Public Finance Banker to join our Global Markets team. This role is located in New York, NY - Hybrid. Role Overview: The Public Finance team provides bond underwriting, variable rate bond remarketing, reinvestment and other services to States, municipalities, non-profits, real estate developers, health care providers, higher educational institutions, corporate issuers with a sustainable lens and other entities around their financing needs. The team works very closely with our Municipal Bond Trading and Underwriting Desk, as well as our Securities Sales representatives. In addition, we frequently connect with our colleagues from other Lines of Business at BNY such as Derivatives Desk, Corporate Trust, Institutional Lending, Asset Servicing and other groups. This position will be part of the Municipal Public Finance team within BNY Capital Markets, reporting to the Head of Municipal Public Finance. In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:
- With guidance, evaluate and pursue new business opportunities and client prospects, focusing on responsible business growth that is compliant, of acceptable risk and profitability.
- Serve in a consultative role to prospects across the US, advising top leadership on the best way to achieve their short- and long- term financing objectives through the firm's solutions.
- Develop new leads in addition to capitalizing on leads provided by other business segments.
- Assist senior Business Development colleagues on large or complex accounts to gain breadth/depth of knowledge.
- Responsible for achieving organic incremental growth from existing clients and locate potential prospects through in-depth industry research and an understanding of the market environment, including short- and long-term trends, fixed income market conditions, competitor offerings, regulatory developments etc.
- Screen and evaluate prospects by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, growth potential, financials and internal firm priorities.
- Help to develop a negotiation strategy and position to align prospect needs to firm offerings.
- Ensure all risk management/compliance activities relevant to business development activities are conducted and captured.
- Tracks and reports on business development results.
To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:
- Excellent communication skills as well as quantitative capabilities.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- The necessary professional licenses including FINRA Series 7, 52, 63 and 79, or the ability to promptly obtain such licenses.
- Entrepreneurial, detail oriented and self-directed - operate as an owner
- A dynamic problem solver - consistently utilises a solution driven mindset
- Able to learn, develop, and take on additional responsibilities when required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in finance, economics, political science, or other related field.
- 5+ years of experience in the Public Finance industry with an entity that is either an investment banker, municipal issuer, financial advisor, investment manager or other industry profession.
- Strong knowledge of the Public Finance market and mechanics, including marketing experience, deal structuring, legal documentation, federal and applicable state laws and regulations around tax-exempt and taxable debt issuance by states, municipalities and other issuers.
- Demonstrated track record of working with states, municipalities, non-profits or other tax-exempt and taxable debt issuers on their financing needs.
- Strong understanding of the fixed income debt markets.
- Excellent history of regulatory compliance and understanding of the regulatory requirements.
- FINRA licensing required prior to or within six months of employment.

The base salary for this position is expected to be between $97,000 and $179,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs. This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
