Job Summary: We are seeking a seasonedSenior Manager, Indirect Tax Systems Integrationto lead the end-to-end implementation and integration of third-party tax compliance and determination technologies within the Indirect Tax function. This role is critical in aligning tax technology solutions with broader business objectives, ensuring seamless integration with ERP systems, and driving improvements in the accuracy and efficiency of indirect tax compliance and determination processes. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in indirect tax-particularly excise tax and sales and use tax-along with strong leadership capabilities and a demonstrated history of successfully delivering complex tax technology initiatives. This position will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including Tax, IT, Finance, and external vendors, to ensure the successful deployment, integration, and adoption of tax technology solutions. Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and execution of indirect tax technology strategies, with a focus on automating excise tax compliance and determination across multiple jurisdictions and ERP platforms for fuel and energy-related operations. Manage and mentor a team of tax professionals responsible for tax research, rule development, and content maintenance within third-party systems. Analyze and interpret federal, state, local, and provincial fuel tax regulations, translating legislative requirements into system logic to ensure accurate tax calculation and reporting. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal Tax, IT, Legal, and Operations teams to ensure seamless integration of tax solutions with enterprise systems and business processes. Oversee the full lifecycle of tax technology projects, including planning, scoping, design, configuration, testing, deployment, and transition to ongoing support. Develop, document, and implement standardized processes and best practices for automation of tax compliance and determination. Act as a key liaison between third-party system developers and tax content teams to optimize system functionality, enhance user experience for energy sector clients, and minimize reliance on custom content. Lead integration initiatives focused on accurate and streamlined tax determination and return filing processes.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Tax, Information Systems, or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in indirect tax, with a strong focus on compliance and technology. At least 5 years of hands-on experience implementing and supporting third-party tax determination and compliance solutions (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, ONESOURCE). In-depth knowledge of U.S. fuel excise tax and sales and use tax regulations, particularly as they apply to marine, aviation, and land-based operations. Demonstrated success in managing large-scale tax automation initiatives and ERP system integrations. Exceptional analytical, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Experience:
Successfully led excise tax technology projects for major fuel/energy clients. Designed and implemented custom tax rules and return processes for fuel jurisdictions. Experience in automating tax determination and compliance and improving audit readiness.
