JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Part-Time Social Media Assistant - Lead

The Social Media Specialist - Lead for Campus Recreation communications supports patron-facing promotional efforts and handles communication projects across social media channels. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, this role is vital in both managing the social media team and overseeing content creation. A minimum of one semester of experience on the Campus Recreation student creative team is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership and Project Management
    • Oversee the social media team, ensuring all members meet deadlines and align with project expectations.
    • Coordinate with the project coordinator to schedule and publish approved content across social media platforms.
    • Work closely with the Senior Student Manager (SSM) to address team needs, manage schedules, and resolve any issues.
  • Analytics and Strategic Planning
    • Pull and analyze monthly social media data, creating comprehensive analytic plans to track engagement trends.
    • Report findings and make strategic recommendations for improvement to the Assistant Director.
  • Content Management and Quality Control
    • Edit all social media content for quality, consistency, and adherence to University brand guidelines.
    • Schedule and, when necessary, physically post content across social media channels.
  • Content Creation and Engagement
    • Develop engaging content, including monitoring Campus Recreation's social media calendar and posting accurate information on facilities, events, and programs.
    • Conceptualize and create digital content aimed at increasing engagement across both target and broader audiences.
    • Respond to followers on social media, connecting with content experts as needed.
  • Social Media Best Practices
    • Research social media trends and recommend strategies for engagement.
    • Create and maintain a consistent tone and voice for Campus Recreation's social media presence.
    • Provide guidance to team members on social media best practices and quality content creation.
  • Event Coverage and Additional Duties
    • Attend Campus Recreation events and programs to capture video and photographic content.
    • Assist in printing, distributing, and delivering promotional materials as necessary.
    • Engage in collaborative efforts and support team development initiatives.

This position requires strong organizational skills, creativity, and an understanding of social media strategy. The Lead will play a critical role in shaping Campus Recreation's social media presence and ensuring alignment with the University's communication goals.

A minimum of one semester of experience on the Campus Recreation student creative team is required. Social media, communications,or business operations, strongproblem-solvingskills, ability to positively interact with thepatrons and employees strongly preferred.

Social Media Specialist - Lead acts as an ambassador for Penn State Campus Recreation both at work and away. Respectfully manages disagreements,models positive rapport with patronsand employees, is a decisive decision maker in the absence of professional staff, displays role model appropriate behavior at all times, including in online communities. Maintains regular and frequent communication with supervisory team, can interact with diverse groups through a variety of situations, and promotes Campus Recreation programs and services.

Work will take place on the University Park Campus and successful candidate must successfully complete a background check and must be able to accommodate a variable work schedule that will include mornings, evenings, weekends, and University breaks.

Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness, wellness, and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the new expanded and renovated 200,000 sf Intramural Building, the McCoy Natatorium, the 700-acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts, the White Building, Outdoor Adventures, Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellness Programs, and Intramural Sports.
