POSITION SUMMARY The role of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator is to provide alignment, support and ongoing maintenance of various program areas within the EHS function. This includes but is not limited to federal, local & state compliance, worker's compensation, employee medical and personnel records, and special projects. Environmental Health & Safety function at our shipyard covers significant heavy manufacturing that takes place both in several fab shops, as well as on the waterfront across our vast, 56-acre facility. The successful candidate will support the 1,000+ working men and woman on our waterfront by passionately pursuing innovative and effective safety solutions that focus primarily on employee well being, manufacturing efficiency and environmental awareness. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintain appropriate confidential occupational health medical documents.
- Schedule & assist with new employee, contractor & visitor orientations.
- Design, schedule & maintain all employee occupational health and safety training files
- Assist all staff on EHS matters of a routine nature.
- Create/prepare reports for Senior Leadership Team as required.
- Assist with special projects and assignments.
- Track & monitor workers compensation program.
- Utilize current Learning Management Software for viability and consistency in required training.
- Assist with the organization of medical surveillance for industrial hygiene.
- Track, authorized and maintain accounting documents for employee PPE reimbursement
- Performance of related duties in support of the EHS function, in a primary or backup capacity.
- Solicit, track and file environmental compliance information IAW state and federal standards
- Gather crucial EHS injury data and disseminate in appropriate reporting medias
- Track monthly OSHA rates and send out reports on a monthly/weekly basis.
- Collect data samples of various materials for occupational health data collection.
- First level support for documenting incidents to identify cause and determine detailed proactive measures to prevent such instances in the future.
- Support EHS team in order to analyze and recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
- Provide administrative support for safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
- Working with medical providers to schedule / arrange appointments.
- Provide administrative support for new-employee health and safety orientations and participate in the development of materials for these presentations.
- Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies.
- Collect data samples of various materials for occupational health data collection.
- The ability to handle minor medical treatment and properly triage minor medical injuries or industrial incidents.
- The ability to get in front of large groups of people to train or inform is vital.
- Conduct yard-wide safety training including developing PowerPoint presentations used by the Department
- Environmental training, outlining compliance items
- Update and develop job safety analyses and standard operating procedures
- Coordinate competent person for confined space, and scaffolding
- Conduct and Analyze DOT Drug Testing and Breath Alcohol Testing
