The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Senior Constituent Affairs Specialist assists the Grassroots Regional Director with the development and implementation of WWP's congressional casework efforts and oversees the day-to-day management of WWP's congressional liaison operations. A primary responsibility of this role is to liaise with congressional offices, including state and district staff, as well as other state officials, to provide outreach and education on WWP programs, services, and support capabilities for post-9/11 wounded, ill, or injured veterans and their families. Additionally, the Senior Constituent Affairs Specialist manages congressional referrals and casework to assist Members of Congress in addressing the needs of their post-9/11 wounded, ill, or injured veteran constituents by connecting them with WWP programs, partners, and federal resources.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Grassroots Regional Director in the development and implementation of a comprehensive constituent affairs strategy to engage Members of Congress and their staff in addressing the needs of their post-9/11 wounded, ill, or injured veteran constituents by connecting them with WWP programs, partners, and federal resources.

  • Provide high-level briefings to Members of Congress, their staff, and other state officials to educate them on WWP programs, services, and specialized support capabilities for post-9/11 veteran constituents and their families, and to establish direct referral channels between congressional offices and WWP.

  • Receive and manage congressional referrals and resulting casework, ensuring timely responses and consistent communication with congressional offices and appropriate staff.

  • Maintain and manage data and reports on inquiries and referrals received from congressional offices seeking WWP's assistance in addressing the needs of post-9/11 wounded, ill, or injured veteran constituents.

  • Assist in the coordination and execution of in-person district events involving WWP Alumni and their elected officials, in collaboration with the Grassroots Regional Director and team.

  • Maintain and update all internal and external Constituent Affairs materials and documents, including but not limited to educational presentations, marketing materials, internal briefs, and program-related documents.

  • Provide timely and relevant updates to WWP senior leadership on congressional casework.

  • Establish and manage relationships with congressional offices at the state and district levels, as well as with the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, other federal agencies, and state government entities, as needed.

  • Collect and analyze casework data to assist the Grassroots and Government Affairs teams in identifying and tracking trends related to post-9/11 veterans and their families.

  • Support the Government Affairs and Grassroots teams in planning and executing cross-organizational advocacy initiatives, including Capitol Hill advocacy fly-ins, the WWP Project Advocacy Newsletter, webinars, and other grassroots activities such as calls to action.

  • Represent WWP as needed at key events, meetings, discussions, hearings, and conferences, or as directed by the Grassroots Regional Director and VP of Government and Community Relations.

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge and understanding of WWP's legislative priorities, as well as the priorities of the military service organization (MSO) and veteran service organization (VSO) communities.

  • Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Exceptional presentation skills. Confident communicator with demonstrated ability to present information effectively to large audiences, small groups, and individuals, and to facilitate discussion, serving as a strong, effective representative of WWP.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility, be decisive, influence others, and drive change.

  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills with the ability to assess complex information and develop creative, high-impact solutions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • High energy level. Self- starter; willing to take initiative.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Three years of experience coordinating casework and communicating with constituents.

  • Three years of experience building and managing relationships with external stakeholders, such as government officials, community partners, or nonprofit organizations.

  • Two years of experience in roles consistently delivering in-person presentations or public speaking in professional settings.

  • One year of experience supporting or engaging in legislative, advocacy, and policy-related activities.

Preferences

  • Five years of experience coordinating casework and communicating with constituents.

  • Four years of military experience or experience working with veterans or military service organizations.

  • Three years of experience working in a congressional office or an executive branch office.

  • Three years of experience working with a non-profit organization.

  • Three years of professional public speaking experience, including formal presentations and/or briefings.

EDUCATION

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Ability to obtain ASIST Certification within 1 year of hire.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

For Washington, D.C. Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $103,219 - $129,024 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.

For New York Applicants: The estimated hiring range for this position is between $107,520 - $134,400 annual base salary,subject to a candidate's combination of experience, qualifications, and credentials. This position may also be eligible for an annual performance incentive.
