JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to assist others in the department, as needed, in daily activities. Individuals in this position are responsible for effective and efficient operations, with minimal supervision. Operators I interact on a regular basis with other department employees' operators, supervisors and other personnel. Operators are responsible for filling in where needed at any station within their department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for day-to-day operations of the plant, including material handling. Operators also must be capable of running all equipment associated with the department.
  • Troubleshoot problems as required.
  • Perform Operator Preventive Maintenance (OPM'S) as prescribed
  • Assist in the training of other departmental employees including assembly and machine operations---training of new employees or cross training or coaching existing employees.
  • Complete all housekeeping assignments, work to improve the condition of the department, and work as a team member with a positive attitude.
  • Must understand and capable of filling in for all jobs within a department including assembly and /or production equipment---includes changeovers, set-up, operate and normal quality checks and subsequent checks to ensure quality product.
  • Should be capable of leading changeovers of complete lines or sections of lines as required
  • Must be able to handle all associated paperwork including production reports, scrap of materials and associated paperwork, labor transactions, and assist with update and reporting for huddle meetings and boards. Must be computer and systems literate.
  • Skills to complete all quality checks and testing within the home department
  • Must be certified to operate any powered mobile equipment within the department
  • Possess skills to repair any products that would normally be repaired by other personnel in the department

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent---machine shop training preferred

Experience:

  • 2 years in manufacturing preferred---assembly and machining preferred; must be willing and able to work normal shift hours , including nights, overtime, weekends, holidays, and additional hours beyond regularly scheduled shift to cover vacancies.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Valid GA driver's license. Powered mobile equipment training / certifications.

Computer Skills:

Knowledge of the system---enter and retrieve data, proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and outlook / e-mail

Mathematical Abilities:

Basic math skills---prefer statistics

Analytical or Reasoning Abilities:

Problem solving and analysis of data---prefer SPC skills

Communication Skills: (Writing, Foreign Language, Reasoning)

Strong Communication Skills, Verbal and Written Skills; Must be skilled at teaching / training others including technical areas.

Other Skills (Technical, or Other special knowledge and abilities)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, stand, and view computer monitor for prolonged periods of time.
  • The ability to reach with arms and hands; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Walking long distances

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Manufacturing---requires appropriate PPE
