Position Summary
This scientist will conduct research on Acinetobacter baylyi for developing synthetic biology and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven biotechnology applications. The person hired will need a strong background in microbiology, molecular biology, A. baylyi-specific methodology, qPCR, genetic engineering, sequence analysis (Bre-seq, Chimera, PyMol, SnapGene, etc). This position involves interactions with many National Laboratories that are collaborating on a multi-million dollar pilot project to develop A. baylyi as a platform organism. The person hired will need to train scientists at other institutions to work with this bacterium. It will be necessary to send protocols, discuss techniques, provide advice, be available for consultation, and to provide help with the interpretation of different types of data. The person hired will need to have strong leadership and teamwork skills and be able to write and publish papers as well as generate presentations and illustrations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • The researcher will need to have knowledge of protein structure, genomic organization and gene expression, qPCR, chromosomal gene amplification, and design of mutant libraries.
  • Benchwork experience with Acinetobacter strains is critical.
  • Reading literature and thinking deeply.
  • Skills in data collection, analysis, and scientific communication are essential.

  • Designing primers, plasmids, and strains.
