Position Description

The ideal candidate will serve as a subject matter expert capable of bridging the gap between vendor technology and clinical operations. They must possess a strong understanding of the product's functionality and troubleshooting techniques, enabling them to validate system performance and identify issues. This includes evaluating current workflows, recognizing opportunities for optimization, and recommending improvements in either system design or operational processes. This position focuses on the registration and scheduling modules, ensuring efficient patient access, appointment management, and front-end administrative workflows across both inpatient and outpatient settings. The expert serves as a liaison between clinical operations, administrative staff, and technical teams to configure and validate workflows that align with federal healthcare standards and organizational objectives. Leveraging deep knowledge of Cerner's Registration Management and Scheduling solutions, along with hands-on experience in VA/DoD implementations, the expert contributes to system design, data integration, user training, and Go-Live readiness while supporting end-user adoption and long-term sustainment strategies. Additionally, they should be adept at articulating changes to affected groups, integrating those insights into training content and communication strategies to support long-term success across future rollouts.

Type of Employment: Full-time salaried and fully benefited position

Work Location/Travel: Expected 50% travel required; applicants must be free from travel restrictions to accommodate evolving needs of the client.

Salary Range: $80,712.00 - $91,670 base salary, depending on experience and location. Competitive salary/pay, potential for bonuses. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is highly competitive but dependent upon employment type (1099, contract, W2).

Role Reports to: Managing Director of Clinical Services

Direct Reports: This role has no direct reports.

Responsibilities:
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on Cerner Registration and Scheduling applications, including eligibility, patient intake, and template management.
  • Lead configuration, testing, and validation of registration and scheduling workflows during implementation and optimization.
  • Collaborate with VA/DoD stakeholders and interdisciplinary teams to define functional requirements and align workflows with Cerner capabilities.
  • Support integration with related modules (e.g., Revenue Cycle, Ambulatory) through data conversion, interface testing, and cross-module coordination.
  • Contribute to training design and deliver role-specific education for front desk and scheduling staff.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve application and workflow issues; escalate technical concerns as needed.
  • Provide onsite and remote support during Go-Live and post-Go-Live activities, including issue tracking and resolution.
  • Conduct workflow impact assessments and communicate changes effectively to end users and stakeholders.
  • Advocate for scalable solution designs that balance standardization with operational complexity.
  • Engage in field-based feedback loops to inform long-term optimization strategies and contribute to the solution roadmap.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Proficiency in Cerner Registration and Scheduling tools, with hands-on experience in configuration and workflow alignment.
  • Strong understanding of patient access processes, including intake, scheduling, and referral management.
  • Familiarity with VA/DoD EHR environments, including implementation protocols, security requirements, and governance standards.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to support training, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional teamwork.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities with attention to detail in system setup and issue resolution.
  • Ability to adapt in fast-paced, high-volume implementation settings with evolving priorities.
Education/Certification Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, Information Systems or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Cerner Registration/Scheduling certification preferred (or relevant Cerner training).

Preferred - Education/Certification:

  • Master's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or Information Systems.
    • Certification in Cerner/Oracle Registration/Scheduling solutions or related applications is preferred.
Experience Required:
  • 5+ years of experience in Registration/Scheduling in clinical settings and/or Health IT roles including supporting Cerner EHR implementations.
  • Experience conducting end-user training, system testing, and workflow validation in federal healthcare environments.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in Cerner/Oracle Health Registration/Scheduling modules, including documentation tools, treatment planning, and clinical decision support
  • Experience with Cerner system configuration and optimization for inpatient and outpatient registration/scheduling workflows
  • Familiarity with testing processes including unit, integration, and user acceptance testing (UAT) for registration/scheduling features
  • Working knowledge of clinical analytics tools (e.g., Lights On Network, HealtheAnalytics) to support reporting and quality improvement
  • Understanding of data privacy and compliance standards (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2), and role-based access control in clinical systems
  • Competency with project management and documentation tools (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow, Microsoft Office, SharePoint)
