Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Compensation Services Associate for University Human Resources (
UHR). Under the direction of the Management of
RBHS Compensation Services, the position is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the staff Compensation Programs for
RBHS. This is a lead position and serves as the primary point of contact for select Schools/Operating Units providing a variety of Compensation Services at the professional level including performing position analysis and making recommendations/determinations for new positions and reclassifications, departmental studies for reorganizations and union reviews in accordance with bargaining unit contract stipulations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Gives direction regarding compensation policies to staff and faculty.
- Participates in the review and maintenance of computerized systems relative to position control, job descriptions and other compensation administration functions.
- Acts as a Compensation subject matter expert to the Human Resources Generalists dedicated to the Central IT department.
- Provides guidance and takes the lead internally within UHR and externally to RBHS departments regarding compensation issues related to recruitment, reorganizations, and structuring of positions.
- Makes recommendations regarding the classification and reclassification of assigned positions based on internal and external analysis and review of positions within established guidelines, protocols, and limitations.
- Interacts regularly with HR staff and department heads, managers, or supervisors to resolve compensation issues and provides guidance to leadership regarding process and procedures, job qualifications for positions, and inquiries pertaining to compensation.
- Ensures that HR Generalists are kept abreast of issues pertaining to compensation matters and pertinent information pertaining to his/her operating unit(s).
- Prepares detailed, comprehensive recommendations and conclusions for all salary offers, equity reviews, in- grade adjustments, reclassifications, labor relations requests, and job description reviews.
- Conducts classification and reclassification studies considering internal and external market data.
- Utilizes market survey data and job documentation data obtained from job descriptions, position information questionnaires and/or desk audits to classify jobs based on the scope and nature of the position.
- Provides direction and oversight regarding processes, policies, and analysis for Compensation Services staff to ensure compliance and adherence to policies.
- Partners with department heads, managers, and supervisors to develop current, accurate and compliant job descriptions reflecting the accurate duties of a positions and the minimum qualifications for a role.
- Reviews and edits position descriptions ensuring that they are substantively and grammatically correct for postings while retaining the content and meaning as understood by the employee and supervisor involved.
- Utilizes salary surveys and market studies to gather and summarize data to draw conclusions used to validate broader Compensation Programs in the organization.
- Utilizes research methods for a variety of compensation related information such as pay programs and strategies, policies, procedures, benefits, compliance, and union contracts.
- Develops and presents compensation training programs for management and/or supervisors.
- Provides assistance on a variety of special projects, assignments and other related duties as required.
- Functions as a contributing member of the Compensation Services Team.
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers' compliance standards as they appear in RBHS's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers' regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Communicates those changes as necessary to the client group.
- Ensures current processes and procedures adhere to these changes.
- Ensures that the client staff are trained and evaluated in their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's Degree preferably in Human Resources Administration, Business Administration or a related field. Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in compensation program administration or in a human resources, payroll or finance related area. Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

- Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Knowledge of compensation laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of Information Technology positions, terminology, and skill sets a PLUS.
- Excellent statistical analysis, problem solving, oral and written communication and interpersonal skill.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with management and employees at all levels.
- Computer proficiency required.
