Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Online Technologist I employs technical or specialized skills to support major work unit processes and outcomes. Provide users with first level technical support in the use of enterprise-wide online learning applications. Works one-on-one with faculty and end users to provide support on system-wide online learning program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supports distance learning technologies utilized by students and faculty in system Distance Learning courses.
  2. Works closely with LSCS IT staff in the support of applications utilized by Distance Learning faculty and students.
  3. Stays abreast of emerging technologies and trends; works with Lone Star On-line staff in exploring new instructional technologies, distance learning and alternative delivery methods, and professional development activities.
  4. Assists Lone Star On-line staff in the evaluation, testing modification, and installation of emerging instructional technologies.
  5. Assists in developing and maintaining Lone Star On-line websites and web tools.
  6. Assists in developing technology-assisted course material, and serves as a training and resource person for instructional technology topics.
  7. Assists with Lone Star On-line training activities by providing technical training and assistance to faculty and staff in utilization of selected computer hardware and software used for course development and distance learning.
  8. Provides backup to Instructional Design team as needed.
  9. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be willing and able to update skills on a regular basis to keep abreast of rapidly changing technology.
  • Excellent technical, problem solving, programming and interpersonal skills with ability for independent/self-directed action.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • May be required to work on-call after regular business hours and/or weekends

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Specialization in technical area as required
Salary

Hiring salary range is $49,531- $56,961

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
