Job Summary

Health Professions Education Analyst Involves supporting or performing the Fellowship and administrative services in Dermatolgic Surgery Applies acquired skills, process, and policy knowledge to support professional health education program learners in Dermatologic Surgery. Coordinates the program operations, which includes teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation. Coordinates implementation of professional health educational activities, which may include program competencies, curriculum, and exams. Dermatology Fellowship Coordinator for three Derm Surgery Fellows per year as well as the coordination of short-term rotators. Administrative services include coordination of communications and pertinent data among a group Dermatology Surgeons and Director of Derm Surgery. Performs and / or oversees special projects or assignments that are highly sensitive or complex in nature, requiring a high level of independence and initiative in execution and implementation. Handles details and oversees work of a highly confidential and critical nature to support the Derm Surgery Faculty on matters of significance. Responsibilities may include preparing presentations, reports and data entry; require strong computer and Internet research skills, flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management, faculty, staff, outside clients and vendors and sensitivity to confidential matters. General management includes long and short range strategic planning in determining the mission and directing all activities of multi-disciplinary departments through subordinate management staff.

The Department of Dermatology, School of Medicine, is responsible for a broad range of patient care, teaching, research and public service responsibilities. The Department provides medical students, residents, and post-doctoral fellows in the School of Medicine, with programs in research, patient care, teaching and public service. The Department is comprised of four distinct clinical sub-units located at the Ambulatory Care Center, San Francisco General Hospital, Mount Zion, Mission Bay and the Veteran's Administration Medical Center and consists of 55 full-time faculty, 40 researchers, 40 staff, 22 residents and 6 clinical fellows. These operations are administered through various sites, interdependent sub-units, which are coordinated through a centralized Administrative Core.


UCSF Dermatologic Surgery is and Laser Center is one of the large divisions in the Department which is dedicated to delivering outstanding clinical care to our patients. They provide cutting-edge treatment options using the latest technology available in order to ensure the best results for our patients. UCSF Dermatologic Surgery and Laser Center prides itself in using the most recent scientific advances when treating patients and is able to offer unique treatment options that are unavailable elsewhere. The incumbent will serve as the fellowship coordinator and core administrative member of this division.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 2-5 years of related experience in educational setting
  • Basic knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Basic knowledge of health professions education industry.
  • Knowledge of educational technology and systems. Ability to troubleshoot and triages related technology issues.
  • Investigative, data analysis, and reporting skills. Ability to generate computer reports, checking for errors, correcting and submitting accurate reports. Skills include entering, maintaining, extracting, and analyzing data in electronic systems.
  • Basic knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Acquiring skills in developing and implementing processes and systems. Familiarity with the administrative and operational implications in a program.
  • Communication skills; includes verbal, written and active listening. Service oriented and responsive to questions and requests. Ability to interact in a professional, resourceful, and courteous manner.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships within department and with learners.
  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to work with extremely complex faculty calendars / schedules requires extremely well organized and detail oriented precision.
  • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook especially)
  • Thorough knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Political acumen and sensitivities to the differing perspectives and political circumstances within all levels of the organization as well as the Office of the President and external constituencies.
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Strong skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, faculty, alumni / donors, students and external constituencies, both verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with APEX/EPIC system
  • Working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Office Exchange
  • Familiarity with the organization's processes, protocols and procedures
