Position Summary:

The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for the administration and direct application of speech/language pathology treatment modalities as prescribed by a referring physician. Evaluates, plans directs and treats all patients referred for speech/language pathology treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury. Assists patients to obtain maximum performance and function in society while learning to adapt and accommodate a routine life within the constraints of their disability. Performs all work in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates strong working knowledge and skill experience with a variety of diagnostic groups including, but not limited to, the following: neurological conditions including CVA, TBI, degenerative neurological diseases, SCI; generalized weakness as a result of medical or surgical conditions including DM, ESRD, amputation, COPD, CHF, and CABG.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of normal growth and development, related behaviors, needs, comfort, and range of treatment appropriate to the age (adult, geriatric) and diagnosis of patient services to support the provision of an individualized interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of IRF-PAI )Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility-Patient Assessment Instrument) and the Care Tool and their application in payment system for CMS.
  • Administers evaluation tools according to established protocols; utilizes non-standardized probes for additional assessment as warranted to establish an appropriate plan of care adapting the plan of care to the individualized needs/goals of the patient/caregiver.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and administers Modified Barium Swallow evaluations and provides recommendations to physicians and nurses in verbal and written form.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology,

  • CCC-SLP, or in the process of completing the Clinical Fellowship Year, CFY.

  • Holds or eligible for Oklahoma State Licensure in Speech-Language Pathology.

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, or equivalent degree as designated by an accredited university.

  • BLS required.

  • First Aid certification preferred.

  • A clinical internship in a hospital or rehabilitation setting during the master's degree program is recommended.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Experience performing modified barium swallow preferred.

  • Basic computer skills required.
