The Department of Environmental Sciences in the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences is seeking a Senior Fiscal Technician to join our administrative team to perform non-grants accounting functions. This position provides back up to and is crossed trained with the Department Finance Generalist. Job Responsibilities The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Monitor the expenditures in assigned worktags and projects to ensure adherence to budget allocation and spending guidelines, making corrections as needed.
- Advise and assist supervisors, faculty, and staff on financial matters as needed, providing up-to-date guidance on university financial policies and procedures.
- Oversee and monitor all expenses and receipts, monthly account certifications, journal entries, expense reports.
- Procure goods and services such as lab supplies and equipment for PIs, staff, and students on local, gift and endowment accounts while ensuring expenses are allocable to funds being charged.
- Ensure bills are paid promptly to comply with university requirements and resolve discrepancies with vendors as needed.
- Prepare and post recurring, standard, and monthly journal entries, T&E credit card reconciliations and document discrepancies, reconciliations, maintain all documentation and records to meet audit requirements.
- Gather, compile, and evaluate financial, statistical, and operational data for reports
- Process travel and expenditure reimbursements.
- Oversee and monitor ETF (Equipment Trust Fund) program.
- Provides backup to the Finance Generalist for grant awards.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Education: High school diploma Experience: Two years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Licensure: None Required Preferred Qualifications
- The ability to work in a fast-paced office environment that requires quick thinking, and strong interpersonal skills.
- A self-starter with a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and excellent work ethic.
- Demonstrates the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Experience with local, gift and endowment accounts.
- Proficient in excel and Microsoft applications.
- Proficient in using Workday a plus.
- Ability to build relationships, develop internal and external partnerships, and influence change.
- Detail oriented, analytical, and organized.
Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
- The anticipated hiring range is $20.00-$26.00, commensurate with education and experience.

- This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3-4 days on campus per week, with additional on-site presence as needed, in accordance with UVA's remote work guidelines.
