Job Title: Buyer, New Product Development (NPD)


Job Location: Chicago (Central Loop)



Job Summary


The Buyer is responsible for all procurement and purchasing activities for goods, services, equipment, tools, parts, supplies and raw materials for various plants. Duties include market research, competitor analysis, product evaluations, negotiating prices, managing suppliers, ensuring cost savings, and supporting product launches. The role involves consistent engagement with engineering and project management to select suppliers, comprehend and source complex Bill of Materials (BOM) requirements, communicate supply constraints, report statuses, address issues, and facilitate logistics in support of successful design and product launches. Additionally, the Buyer is also responsible for placing POs in SAP, expediting and receiving them, running various SAP reports, and conducting RFPs for other associated categories of goods and services.


The ideal candidate will have experience in the manufacturing industry, proficiency utilizing SAP, and possess a strong understanding of supply chain management concepts and NPD process.



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities



  • Collaborates with engineering and project management to review complex BOMs and bids out each SKU to appropriate vendors
  • Prepares sourcing analysis and recommendations for new BOMs and communicates supply chain risks effectively
  • Places orders, expedites, understands bottlenecks and solves them
  • Maintains the list of preferred vendors for various categories
  • Travels to visit vendors, evaluates their performance and drives improvements, under the oversight of Procurement Leader
  • Prepares large bid packages, conducts RFPs and analyzes proposals.



Required Education, Experience and Qualifications



  • 4-year college degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or other equivalent major
  • A minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience or related field required.
  • Previous SAP purchasing experience required.
  • Thorough working knowledge of purchasing policies, processes and procedures; experience with new product launches is preferred
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to negotiate best vendor terms, pricing and delivery dates according to budgetary and schedule requirements.
  • Strong Excel skills, ability to work with large data sets, BOMs 1000+ SKUs deep, analyze proposals from vendors, and make recommendations for vendor selection
  • Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to plan and organize; have strong attention to detail, and good time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and ability to effectively problem-solve.
  • Cooperative, team-oriented, customer service oriented, patient, calm under pressure, and able to work independently.



Compensation


The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Pregis' total compensation package. The base pay range for this role is estimated to be $87,000 - $105,000.
