Job Summary

Loudoun County Fire and Rescue (LCFR) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Fleet Specialist to join our team. This position plays a vital role in ensuring our emergency response fleet is always operational, safe, and mission ready.

As a Fleet Specialist, you'll be responsible for approving repairs, coordinating new apparatus design and inspection, and managing the preparation, maintenance, and inventory of fire and rescue vehicles and equipment. You will also represent LCFR at internal and external meetings and support strategic initiatives to maintain a high-performance fleet that meets NFPA and Triple-K standards.

Key Responsibilities

* Approve and oversee repairs to LCFR heavy fleet vehicles.
* Assist with the design, inspection, and upfitting of new fire and rescue apparatus.
* Transport emergency vehicles in compliance with all applicable laws and LCFR policies.
* Maintain detailed records of fleet use, workflow, repair schedules, and vehicle status.
* Prepare new vehicles for service, including installation of emergency equipment.
* Conduct daily inspections of reserve fleet apparatus, including mechanical assessments.
* Manage vendor relationships and coordinate third-party construction and customization projects.
* Oversee inventory of tools and equipment required for fleet readiness.
* Serve as department liaison at meetings, conferences, and vendor consultations.
* Research trends, policies, and strategic initiatives related to fire and rescue fleet management.
* Ensure compliance with applicable NFPA and Triple-K (Star of Life) regulations.

What You Bring

* In-depth knowledge of emergency vehicle fleet operations and public safety vehicle systems.
* Expertise in installing emergency and specialized equipment, including accessibility features.
* Familiarity with computerized vehicle information systems.
* Strong vehicle operation skills and a clean driving record.
* Ability to collaborate with vendors, teams, and stakeholders across the department.
* Experience conducting vehicle inspections-inside, outside, and undercarriage assessments.
* Commitment to detail, safety, and continuous improvement in fleet operations.
* Ability to train fire and rescue personnel on vehicles and equipment as needed.


Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; three (3) years of equipment maintenance or related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Current or previous experience in fleet maintenance preferred.


Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Pass background checks including criminal, credit, fingerprinting, and DMV checks. Must be able to obtain Class B CDL within 12 months of hire. EVT and/or ASE certifications are preferred. This position is subject to a rotating on-call schedule and shifts may vary. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
