Job Summary

The Loudoun County Health Department (LCHD) is seeking a skilled, independent, and highly motivated Public Health Nurse to join our Clinical Health Services Division as a Tuberculosis (TB) Nurse. This full-time role is based at our office in Ashburn, Virginia, with core work hours of Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. As a Public Health Nurse focused in the TB program, you'll play a key role in protecting and improving the health of Loudoun County residents. This is a meaningful opportunity to make a direct and lasting impact in our community.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides TB screenings in the clinic and in the community.
  • Manages medication and provides education for clients infected with TB.
  • Provides comprehensive case management of active TB cases within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Performs assessments of client's health in the clinic and in the community, including at the client's home.
  • Provides patient care and develops patient care plans.
  • Provides follow up and coordination of medical care.
  • Follows nursing and state protocols for the management of tuberculosis patients.
  • Collaborates with medical team.
  • Educates clients about health information and disease prevention.
  • Documents services in the medical record.
  • Makes referrals to other agencies on behalf of the client.
  • Works with the Long-Term Support Services team to conduct assessments.
  • Maintains confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines; and uses universal precautions and personal protective equipment as needed.
  • Participates as a member of a team to protect the health and safety of the public during emergency.
  • Serve as a resource and subject matter expert to the public, local providers and schools.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is eligible for a $6,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the County's Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Nursing; two (2) years of nursing work experience related to assigned department, preferably in public or community health or behavioral and/or developmental health services, depending on department; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

  • Hold an unencumbered Virginia license as a Registered Nurse and renew and maintain license as required, fulfilling all required continuing education required for licensure.
  • Must be able to wear an N-95 mask or other personal protective equipment (PPE), such as a face shield, gown, gloves, etc.
  • Pass pre-employment background checks including criminal and/or fingerprinting, NCIC, credit, and DMV checks. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification).
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Pass TB test within 10 days of hire.
  • Vaccination or proof of vaccination as required for Health Care Personnel by the Virginia Department of Health as required by the assignment.
