Job Details:
Mercer University is searching for an Administrative Support Assistant on the Macon, Georgia campus.

Responsibilities:

Manages on a daily basis the offices for the three departments that occupy Knight Hall: Department of World Languages and Cultures (WLC), the Department of Philosophy (PHI), and the Columbus Roberts Department of Religion (REL). Acts as receptionist for the departments, handles telephone and e-mail communications, purchases supplies, supervises work-study students, and monitors budgets as directed by department chairs. Operates under the supervision of the Chair of the Columbus Roberts Department of Religion, who coordinates administrative support needs for the aforementioned Knight Hall departments.

This is an 11-month position working 37.5 hours per week from August 1 to June 30 each year and is off during the month of July.

Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED and one year of administrative support experience are required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Computer knowledge including e-mail and internet usage.
  • Daily flow of work is accomplished on Word documents - letter writing memos and general correspondence within and outside of the university dealing with professors' professional interests outside the classroom.
  • Knowledge and use of Excel are increasingly important since many requests from deans' offices come in the form of spreadsheets.
  • Use of email for general university business, memos to department faculty, and department reports circulated through email. Internet usage for university calendar, setting up lecture series - reservations for building and room usage.
  • Ability to learn and use software platforms such as Workday and Anthology.
  • Basic knowledge of contemporary technology so as to provide clear communication with faculty and the tech support staff of the university.
