Primary Purpose of the Organization:
The Fayetteville State University ( FSU) One-Card Office falls under the organizational structure of Business Services within the Business and Finance Division. The One-Card Office is the primary administrative focus for the implementation and operation of the University's One-Card Program and the University Locksmith Shop. The University's One Card System was designed to serve
as the central control system for meal plan dining hall access, building security access, verification of student enrollment and as a debit card location for various points of sale activities. Some of these activities include declining balances bonus dollars for students on meal plans, vending sales, copier sales, laundry services, bookstore sales and ticket distribution.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Temporary Access Control Specialist supports campus security and operational efficiency by installing, managing, and maintaining the electronic access control systems integrated with the university's One Card system. This role ensures secure and accurate access to residential, academic, and administrative facilities for students, faculty, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Install, configure, and maintain electronic door locks, card readers, and related access control hardware.
  • Coordinate with vendors and IT staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues with access hardware and software systems (e.g., CBORD, Lenel, Salto, or similar platforms).
  • Program access rights and schedules for campus users in alignment with university policies and event needs.
  • Respond to service requests, conduct diagnostics, and repair malfunctioning locks or access devices in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of access permissions, equipment inventory, service logs, and lock schedules.
  • Partner with housing, campus security, facilities, and IT to manage access for student move-in/move-out, building maintenance, and emergency response.
  • Conduct audits and security reviews of access control points to ensure compliance and recommend improvements.
  • Provide training and support for campus staff on electronic access usage, troubleshooting, and safety procedures.
  • Participate in after-hours on-call rotation for urgent access issues and campus security needs.


Work Environment:


  • Primarily on-campus; involves both office and fieldwork.
  • May require evening or weekend hours for installations, upgrades, or emergency response.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology, Electronics, Security Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of experience with electronic access control systems, electronic locks, or building security systems.
  • Working knowledge of access control software platforms and networked systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, technical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work with hand tools and small electronic components.

Knowledge skills and abilities:
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment.
  • Certifications in access control systems or low-voltage electrical work (e.g., Lenel, CBORD, Salto, or similar).
  • Familiarity with key control policies, ADA compliance, and FERPA/confidentiality standards.
