Responsibilities

This position is responsible for supporting a scientific team conducting translational research in hematology, blood disorders and inflammatory diseases. The person would be responsible for conducting cellular and molecular studies using animal models and cultured cellular system, analyzing data and presenting the findings to the laboratory, and writing the manuscript.

    Conduct and design independent research under the direction of lab Principle Investigator (PI).
  • Conduct various experiments including cell culture, analyzing interactions of blood cells with extracellular matrix or vascular vessel walls, and the progression or pathogenesis of inflammation, thrombosis, and hemorrhage in various mouse models.
  • Summarize experimental data timely and assist in drafting figures, results, and methods for publication under the direction of the PI.
  • Lead junior research assistants/technicians/students.
  • Acquiring a thorough understanding of the present scientific literature relating to the research in the laboratory.
  • Presenting research findings to other members of the laboratory.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements on organizational processes and practices.
  • Participates in professional development by attending conferences and seminars and is an active participant in national and international organizations.
  • Any related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education:

  • A doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in a biological science, biochemistry, or other relevant area, M.D., or equivalent is required.

Experience:

  • Must have hands-on experience with cell culture, biochemical and molecular biologic techniques, and animal handling.
  • Any combination of education, training and experience that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience in molecular and biochemical techniques, animal handling, and cell culture.
  • Knowledge of pathophysiology of hematology and inflammation, cellular biology, and molecular biology.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization and customers in a helpful, courteous, and friendly manner while demonstrating sensitivity to and respect for diverse populations.
  • Ability to work in a strong team environment.
  • Ability to plan and organize job tasks or resources in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Ability to identify complex problems in a timely manner, decipher information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is $82,232.00p/yr. to $92,960.00p/yr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicant's skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
