Georgia-Pacific is seeking a Process Safety Engineering Intern to join our team in Summer 2026 at our integrated pulp and paper mill in Brewton, Alabama!

We are looking for an engaged and detail-oriented engineering student that is interested in learning about manufacturing and process safety. This role will provide support to the mill by advancing and promoting safe operations and process safety management in accordance with OSHA 1910.119. This role will serve as part of the safety department and work alongside disciplines across the site including but not limited to operations, maintenance, process controls, and more.

Our Team

The Brewton mill is located in south central Alabama about an hour from Mobile, AL, Pensacola, FL, and the beautiful beaches of the Gulf Coast. The team is made up of 450 employees who produce white top linerboard and solid bleached sulfate (SBS) paperboard. The SBS material is used to make GP's Dixie plates. White top linerboard is used in production of corrugated containers and displays. This position is an opportunity to be part of a rapidly expanding organization with tremendous growth potential. The most recent $160M capital investment is expected to be completed in late 2024. Brewton was also the first fully integrated pulp and paper mill in the US to receive an Energy Star designation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. We are Brewton.

What You Will Do

  • Support the process safety program by ensuring compliance with OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management (PSM) of Highly Hazardous chemicals
  • Support mill operations by participating in Management of Change (MOC) reviews for equipment and process changes
  • Support mill maintenance and operations by participating in Incident Investigations by determining root cause and developing corrective actions
  • Work with operations teams to create effective actions to improve the safety of the processes at the mill
  • Improve other aspects of the Process Safety program to create more safe and efficient means of reaching safety goals and compliance

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Enrolled in a college degree program or alternative program. (e.g., 4-year university, 2-year technical college program, certificate program, upskilling program, etc.)
  • Pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other related degree programs.
  • Eligible for full time employment on or before Summer 2028.
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.
