Position Highlights |
The Department of Surgery and Translational Neurosciences at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix is jointly seeking a highly motivated Research Technician I to aid in a research project focused on the causes and developing new diagnostics and treatment for neuroendocrine cancer. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded, enthusiastic individual with training in the broad area of biomedical sciences. The candidate should have basic research experience in a laboratory setting and be familiar with techniques such as cell culture, immunohistology, confocal microscopy, and in vitro and in vivo drug testing. Additionally, the candidate is expected to assist in managing an expanding biorepository of human patient samples. Thus, this position will have both basic and clinically related research components as part of a physician-scientist team seeking to understand the causes, develop novel diagnostics, and discover new targeted therapies for problematic cancers. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Conduct laboratory research using cells grown in culture, animal models and human tissue samples developing monoclonal recombinant monospecific phosphorylation state-specific antibodies that detect phosphorylation sites by immunostaining of histological samples including tissue microarrays that serve as biomarkers for classification of individual patient tumors as driven by a target of ongoing drug discovery
- Develop an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay that can be used as a clinical laboratory test for human tumor samples
- Assist with validation of lead compounds derived from high through put drug discovery screens with in vitro and in vivo testing of hits
- Assist and facilitate in the collection of valuable patient-derived biospecimens in the clinical setting.
- Ensure optimal care, storage, and preparation of samples, with cataloging and inventory of samples.
- Manage data base of samples with de-identified disease-relevant data for biostatistical and informatic studies.
- Interact with clinical research team
- Records information and maintains logs of experimental data to ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation of the research
- Assist clinical research team with compliance and protocols for human sample studies.
- Interact with clinical research supervisor and staff to coordinate sample pick up, scheduling, and record entry
- Attend meetings and contribute to planning with biorepository collection team.
- Analyze data, present data, and interact daily with a robust team of physicians and scientists.
- Review and study the background and relevant literature and contribute to publications and grant proposals.
- Summarize the status and success of ongoing experiments.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of lab techniques and willingness to learn more
- Organizing databases and lab notebook including experiment protocols
- Ability to analyze research results.
- Ability to report results to the lead investigatory team in the lab and biorepository meetings.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Dependable and willingness to make clear progress on multiple aspects of this project.
- Familiarity with histology, cell culture, and microscopy techniques.
- Appreciation of the opportunity to gain experience in a strong clinical and translational research environment.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
* Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field. * Molecular biology experience. * Previous research experience (internship, independent study).
