Position Highlights

The Goldman lab in the Sarver Heart Center is seeking a Lab Manager to join their research team. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a cardiology research laboratory, including workflow coordination, personnel supervision, and quality assurance. The incumbent manages procurement, equipment maintenance, regulatory compliance, safety protocols, and budget tracking. They will provide training and direction to staff, students, and trainees while ensuring effective data, inventory, and resource management.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the day-to-day operation of cardiology research laboratory, daily workflow, quality assurance, and personnel, in partnership with the PI.
  • Responsible for ordering, procurement, equipment maintenance, reconciling invoices and spending.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment, chemical/biological/radiation safety, training and disposal, regulatory requirements, spending/budget management, supplies, sample/chemical inventories and data management.
  • Supervise, train, and direct activities of subordinates and students.
  • Administer research staff/student participation: schedules, security access, data collection/analysis, presentations and report writing.
  • Prepare for aseptic experiments, necropsy, assist in data collection and support result documentation.
  • Develop and maintain detailed records of experiments, analyzing, writing findings, sample collection, storage and shipment.
  • Develop and implement SOPs, IACUC protocols as dictated by experimental design.
  • Assist in design of research experiments/methods under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Assist with grant writing/submission. Prepare budgets, methods and available resources. Assist with manuscript writing, data analysis, study methods, figures and formatting.
  • Perform animal surgery that may include induction of cardiac injury and treatment. Evaluate cardiac and behavioral function. Oversee animal wellbeing and handling and experimental procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as experience giving oral presentations and writing scientific reports.
  • Understanding of project management, contracts, grant submissions, manuscript preparation and regulatory requirements.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and maintain a clean working environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and delegate to others.
  • Ability to communicate with multiple collaborators and coordinate several projects with clarity and efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • More than 15 years of experience if no degree.
  • Experience with basic research and aseptic surgery.
