Employee Safety Specialist- Full Time

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Manager of Employee Safety, the Employee Safety Specialist is responsible for collecting, understanding, organizing and sharing safety data at their respective site(s); and, in partnership with site leadership and HR, develops the interventions that will address employee safety opportunities. Work in partnership with the hospital's leadership and medical staff leadership in the development, measurement, and oversight of comprehensive employee safety programs, including performance improvement interventions. Co-facilitate system Employee Safety initiatives and ensure implementation of recommendations at local sites along with accountability through the CEO. Must be a team player with excellent oral and written communication skills to support, direct, and work with employees, leadership, physicians and various external audiences.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ability to facilitate and coordinate the design and implementation of employee safety initiatives, programs, and projects at the site level; provide project management support to clinical improvement initiatives.
  2. Assess project needs based on evidenced based best practice(s) and/or regulatory standards; Guides the selection of appropriate team members to address project needs; guides and/or develops a work plan including timelines; Demonstrates the ability to develop an effective communication plan; Seeks leadership guidance appropriately to assist with the identification of obstacles/barriers to success
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the science of process improvement and provide formal and informal consultation; Applies various quality improvement processes/tools and ability to initiate, design, and develop process improvement projects and programs based on organizational need.
  4. Assist in analysis and interpretation of data; Use data to develop programs to drive change
  5. Provide formal and informal education to members of the business unit on employee safety and process improvement, performance measurement and management, change management and other key subjects critical to the support of employee safety.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making using information technology
  7. Actively participate in site Safety Huddles as well as system Employee Safety Forums and provide support and input to problem resolution, understanding of data, and process improvement
  8. Experience with clinical quality and employee safety principles/initiatives; demonstrated ability to apply concepts
  9. Ability to adapt, respond and prioritize in a rapidly changing health care environment and ability to successfully manage multiple competing demands
  10. Experience with new program/initiative development, implementation and evaluation. Ability to act as a change agent, providing direction to others and gaining their support.
  11. Basic understanding of the research process and statistical analysis
  12. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff.
  13. Strong oral and written communication skills including presentation skills
  14. Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, email, and internet navigation software.
  15. Understanding of health care cultures including medical and nursing cultures. Sound decision-making skills and problem-solving skills.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field required.
  • Five (5) years of employee safety/safety/clinical quality experience required with two (2) years project management experience preferred.
  • Experience in the delivering of educational programs is an asset. * Is knowledgeable of MIOSHA and OSHA laws.
