POSITION TITLE: Lead Lifeguard

DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

SUPERVISOR: Aquatic Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time, Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead Lifeguard is responsible for the health and safety of members and guests in attendance at the Aquatic facility, carry out rescues as required, and are also responsible for the cleanliness of the aquatic facility. They also guide and mentor the lifeguard and pool attendant teams.

The Kroc Center Hawaii Lead Lifeguard will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIREMENTS:



  • High School graduate or GED.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification.
  • First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
  • At least 3 years lifeguard experience or a minimum of 1,500 work hours as a lifeguard at Kroc Center Hawaii.


Any equivalent combination of training and/or education in lieu of work experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

PREFERENCES:



  • Water Safety Instructor Certification and/or Lifeguard Instructor Certification
  • Water Exercise Instructor preferred
  • Certified Pool Operator certification


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Provide all lifeguarding services and rescue swimmers in danger of drowning. Respond to emergency situations and, if necessary, administer CPR/First Aid according to training guidelines. Prepare and submit accident/incident and PTM reports.
  2. Assist in the supervision and coaching of lifeguards and pool attendants; provide support to swim programs.
  3. Assist with scheduling of lifeguards to ensure that adequate coverage of pool areas is maintained during operating hours. Review time exception reports, absence reports, and vacation requests with the Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Coordinator.
  4. Assists with schedules, coordinates, and conducts in-service training. Ensures that lifeguards are fully competent in first aid, CPR, and all water rescue techniques.
  5. Ensures that aquatics programs are occurring as desired and assist the Aquatic Manager with overall management of swimming events.
  6. Provide excellent internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for guest through professional and courteous behavior.
  7. Assists the Aquatics Maintenance Technician and Aquatics Manager in maintaining the cleanliness of the pool area, locker rooms and facility (i.e., scrubbing, washing, picking up litter, etc.).
  8. Caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; enforces and adheres to pool rules and regulations; maintains order in the pool and adjoining areas.
  9. Follows emergency action plan and procedures established in the event of an emergency.
  10. Maintain swimming and rescue skills through conditioning swims and attendance at all training sessions, staff meetings, and in-service trainings.
  11. Ensure lost property is handled and recorded in line with procedures.
  12. Observe, document, and report safety issues to the appropriate supervisors.
  13. May assist in determining chlorine content and pH value of water using water testing kit and recording readings.
  14. Responsible for the availability and safekeeping of emergency equipment (rescue tubes, backboard, signs, and other equipment. Report any damage or malfunction of equipment of the pool, pool area, or facility to the Aquatic Manager.
  15. Assist in the opening and closing of the aquatic facilities. Perform roam duties as required.
  16. Assists the Aquatics Manager with early childhood swim education programs, and other swim classes offered to the community.
  17. Assume a schedule of flexible working hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  18. Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, Kroc Center Hawaii co-workers and the public.
  19. Ability to work effectively as a team player.
  20. Maintain a neat, professional appearance.
  21. Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  22. Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  23. Perform other assignments/duties as directed.
