SUMMARY

The Shipping Clerk is responsible for material handling, shipping and other supply chain activities. The list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may expand to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Comply with Westlake Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Regular attendance, timeliness and scheduling flexibility
  • Manage the unloading/loading verification of incoming/outgoing shipments for accuracy and quality.
  • Retrieve Bill of Lading and packing list from all incoming product and process timely.
  • Support production schedules, orders, requests for materials or other stock items in order of priority, due date, and material availability.
  • Ensure items received are delivered and put away daily.
  • Ensure material storage areas and receiving area are kept clean from debris and trash
  • Retrieve incoming orders and prepare requested sample boxes for shipment
  • Distribute requested items to production line in an accurate and timely fashion as needed.
  • Improve and maintain plant and outside yard 5S/Safety
  • Improve and maintain visual management.
  • Review Kanban and provide feedback once items reach min levels
  • Assist with yearly Physical Inventory
  • Perform internal and some external expediting.
  • Loads and unloads materials onto or from trucks by forklift as required.
  • Other duties as requested

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Manufacturing Experience (Automated/manual production lines)
  • Lean Manufacturing (5S, Kaizen)
  • Continuous Improvement Experience
  • Basic Computer skills, advanced skills will be developed
  • Ability to be Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and SAP within 3 months
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as purchase orders and shipping information.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Proficient in the use of a computer
  • One-year related work experience preferred
  • Forklift experience required
  • High school diploma preferred
  • Prolong standing or in stationary position

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee should possess the ability to:

  • Prolong standing or in stationary position
  • Complete repetitive movements such as typing
  • Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to move or traverse about the facilities
  • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs or ladders
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, walk or crawl
  • Must be able to occasionally climb, balance
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, safety glasses, or shield, safety toe shoes, hi-vis clothing and hardhat protection)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:

  • Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that may be uncomfortable
  • Withstand exposure to temperature extremes inside or out
  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions
  • Must tolerate an environment with inside ambient temperatures
