Securian Asset Management is seeking a 4(a)(2) Debt Private Placement Investment Analyst to support the continued growth of our Investment Grade credit focused Private Placement portfolio. The position is accountable for underwriting new and existing investment opportunities across a variety of industries in addition to maintaining relationships with key constituencies to support the origination of new investment opportunities. Responsibilitiesmay include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluate and screen new Investment Grade debt Private Placement opportunities across a variety of industries utilizing fundamental credit analysis and assessing investment relative value; undertake additional transaction and investment specific due diligence as required.
- Complete timely and comprehensive analysis of new and existing investment opportunities that clearly articulates an investment recommendation, thesis, credit strengths and credit risks for review by internal investment committee and portfolio managers
- Review and evaluate transaction legal documentation with both internal and external counsel to assess covenant quality, credit structure and relevant creditor protections
- Monitor existing portfolio holdings and update investment recommendations by following relevant issuer news; company financial statements; news releases and covenant compliance information; rating agency credit actions; and other relevant industry trends.
- Analyze and provide prompt recommendations for issuer covenant amendments and waivers.
- Develop relationships with Private Placement agents to support the origination of new investment opportunities; interact with sell side research analysts and credit agency rating analysts as necessary.
- Participate in Credit Watchlist meetings for underperforming investments and provide timely updates on important developments related to issuer creditworthiness; discuss investment recommendations with internal investment committee and portfolio managers
- Support Firm or team specific projects and ambitions as necessary.
Qualifications:
- College degree (preferably in accounting, finance, business, economics, and/or a quantitative field) with progress toward MBA degree and/or CFA designation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to distill and communicate critical issues and assumptions
- Strong understanding of fundamental credit analysis gained through on-the-job experience (insurance company, bank, asset manager or similar) and/or formal credit training
- Strong analytical skills, including a strong understanding of Investment Analysis (including Relative Value), Financial Accounting and Financial Statement Analysis
- Familiarity with debt Private Placement legal documentation and covenant structures
- Broad understanding of capital markets through on-the-job experience (insurance company, bank, asset manager, or similar) and/or formal financial training
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and willingness to embrace new technologies to support business objectives
- High level of curiosity, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to teamwork to achieve business objectives
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7+ years of credit research or similar experience (Private Placement experience a plus)
- Demonstrated track record of success independently evaluating and underwriting investment grade Private Placement debt investments across formats including private corporate, infrastructure, asset backed securities, and/or credit tenant lease.
- Completed or significant progress towards MBA degree and/or CFA designation

The estimated base pay range for this job is: $111,300.00 - $231,200.00
