Ciena is looking for a Director, Global Trade / Import to drive seamless cross-border movement of goods while ensuring top-tier compliance. This is your opportunity to lead a critical function, aligning regulatory requirements with business objectives to unlock efficiency, market access, and measurable business impact. How You Will Contribute:
Own and optimize the global import program, including policies, broker management, controls, and reporting. Oversee customs classification, origin determination, valuation, free-trade agreement qualifications, and recordkeeping standards. Lead scalable, integrated program and project management initiatives from concept to execution. Collaborate across supply chain, logistics, procurement, tax, legal, and IT to embed trade requirements into processes and strategies. Implement tariff mitigation strategies, duty recovery programs, and other trade optimization initiatives. Monitor and interpret global import regulations, translating shifts into operational plans to safeguard compliance and minimize disruption. Resolve customs inquiries, audits, and risks while supporting due diligence and internal controls. Develop dashboards to track import volumes, tariff impacts, savings, and broker performance, driving accountability and operational improvements. Manage customs broker relationships and act as a liaison with global customs authorities and government agencies. Create policies, procedures, and training programs to promote compliance awareness and continuous improvement.
The Must Haves:
Bachelor's degree in international trade, supply chain, business, or a related field. 10+ years of experience in international trade compliance or customs operations, with direct import program management. Expertise in HTS classification, valuation, country of origin rules, reconciliation, duty drawback, and free trade agreements. In-depth knowledge of U.S. and international import laws (e.g., CBP, WCO) and customs compliance best practices. Proven ability to manage global import programs and resolve audits or regulatory inquiries.
The Assets:
U.S. Customs Broker License or equivalent international trade certification. Hands-on experience with Oracle GTM or other trade automation systems. Strong analytical mindset with a data-driven approach to decision-making. Ability to document and implement process improvements and compliance controls. Exceptional organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
Pay Range:
The annual pay range for this position is $162,600 - 211,200 USD #LI-Remote #LI-SG
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
