Your tasks

Position Summary:

The Senior Energy Manager reports to the Director of Engineering and plays a key role in supporting SIG's Engineering Department. This role will be responsible for overseeing the management of Junior to Mid-Level Engineering Department Team Members, including defining management standards, training approaches, work assignments, and growth paths. This role is focused on helping guide and shape talent within the Engineering Department and supporting their ability to flourish and grow within the organization.

Responsibilities:

- Project Management & Execution

Independently lead and perform billable project work (remotely and on-site) for a variety of clients with project types such as New and/or Existing Building Commissioning, ASHRAE Energy Audits, NYC Local Law compliance (84, 87, 88, 97, etc), and ENERGY STAR projects.

Regularly execute on-site client meetings and/or engineering project work within the New York metropolitan area and periodically travel to other locations across the United States; primarily East Coast and Midwest regions.

Consult with clients to develop plans, set appropriate goals and recommend effective solutions.

Assign and execute project activities following defined project schedules, and actively monitor, report and/or escalate any issues that may impact task or project delivery (budget, timeline, deliverable quality, etc.)

Collect and analyze data related to energy systems, energy usage, water efficiency, waste management, and other sustainability metrics and prepare clear and concise written reports that convey technical information, understanding of the client's needs and objectives and outcomes aligned with those objectives.

Create and/or facilitate clear, consistent and timely internal/external project communications on a variety of topics such as project needs, progress updates, and deliverable details via meetings, emails, calls and other appropriate communication channels.

Execute quality control reviews of project deliverables and/or other materials prepared by Engineering Department staff, as needed.

Team Management

Partner with HR Department to oversee onboarding and offboarding of Junior to Mid-Level Engineering Department employees to ensure that onboarding plans are consistently and thoroughly defined, communicated, and executed; and all offboarding tasks are identified, tracked, and completed.

Promote innovation through new ideas and products in sustainability, inspire team members to produce new ideas for processes and revenue streams, and ensure ideas are captured and reported in appropriate Leadership Meetings.

Manage the successful execution of quarterly goal status checks, mid-year reviews and annual reviews for Junior to Mid-Level Engineering Department employees.

Develop and execute training plans for Junior to Mid-Level Engineering Department employees that encompass operational, technical and marketplace learning objectives, and support growth in both technical competency and operational excellence.

Oversee the development and maintenance of department-specific process, policy, and training materials.

- Department Management

Continuously seek to optimize internal processes to drive quality and efficiency within the Engineering Department.

Help monitor project backlog, project billings, timesheets, and sales pipeline for scopes/projects associated with the Engineering Department, and work to support the development of staffing plans that align to current and future demands and appropriately utilize department staff.

Help monitor and guide spending within the department and ensure that expenses are accrued in alignment with corporate policy, and that overall costs remain within and/or below budget.

- Leadership

Serve as a technical resource for Sales, Marketing, Sustainability, ESG and Engineering Departments.

Provide referrals and/or leads to the Sales Department via standard tools and methods, as well as contribute to the sales process as requested/necessary (scope and/or proposal development, requirements review, sales meetings, etc.).

Partner with the Department Director to define areas of success and friction for department interoperability, and work to identify and implement solutions that expand successes and mitigate challenges.

Partner with HR Department to address employee issues, staffing change management, and provide recommendations and/or feedback on HR tools, policies, and procedures.

Participate in strategic planning activities and the development of growth models.

The anticipated annual base pay range for this full-time position is $110,000-$140,000. Actual base pay will be determined based on various factors, including years of relevant experience, training, qualifications, and internal equity. The compensation package may also include an annual bonus target, subject to eligibility and other requirements. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package to employees, including a 401(k) plan with employer match, 12 weeks of paid parental leave, health plans (medical, dental, and vision), life insurance and disability, and generous paid time off.

Your qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering

7+ years of experience delivering New and/or Existing Building Commissioning, ASHRAE Energy Audits, LL87, and/or ENERGY STAR projects.

A Professional Engineering license is required, preferably in the State of New York.

Additional accreditations are encouraged (CBCP, CxA, CEM, LEED AP, etc.).

Experience with ASHRAE energy audits and retro-commissioning (30+ completed projects, case studies available upon request).

HVAC systems experience.

Experience with Building Systems, including Building Management Systems (BMS) and Building Automation Systems (BAS).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the following ASRHAE Guidelines/Standards is required:

0-2019 (The Commissioning Process), 0.2-2015 (Commissioning Process for Existing Systems and Assemblies), 11-2018 (Field Testing of HVAC Controls Components), 36-2024 (High-Performance Sequence of Operations for HVAC System), 55-2023 (Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy), 62.1 (Ventilation & Indoor Air Quality Standard), 90.1 (Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings), 111-2024 (Testing, Adjusting and Balancing of Building HVAC Systems), 202-2024 (The Commissioning Process Requirements for New Building and New Systems), and 211-2018 (Standard for Commercial Building Energy Audits).

Familiarity with LEED rating systems.

Familiarity with NYC Building Codes and NYSERDA.

Good understanding of mechanical/electrical/plumbing drawings.

Project management skills with a focus on timeliness, consistency, and client experience.

Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills with acute attention to detail.

Ability to analyze data, evaluate outcomes, and recommend actions.

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
