Project/Unit Description

The position of Senior System Integration & Test Engineer is within the Software Engineering and Architecture Division (SEAD) in the Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL). The chosen individual will support the multiple C2ISR weapon systems at Robins, AFB GA, C2ISR Division with the goal of improving C2ISR System Integration. This work will entail both internal and external looks at programs/projects that need to integrate with C2ISR Division programs. This position will be responsible for sustaining a C2ISR Division level System Integration Working Group (SIWG) with participants across the enterprise. The position will interface with external programs and technical leadership within the Command Control and Communications Battle Management (C3BM) portfolio to assist the C2ISR division in aligning assigned weapon systems architectures into the broader C3BM enterprise. This support will assist the government in defining Policies and Procedures, as directed by C2ISR leadership. The job will require that the individual perform the duties at Robins AFB.


Job Purpose

The Systems Engineer oversees and coordinates the work of technical teams on systems projects, ensuring the successful design, implementation, operation, and technical management of those projects. Taking a holistic approach to systems engineering, the Systems Engineer ensures that all aspects of a system project are considered and addressed. The Systems Engineer works closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and then develops and documents technical requirements that meet those needs. The Systems Engineer leads the design team in developing a system architecture that meets all of the requirements. After the system is designed, the Systems Engineer oversees the implementation of the system, working with the implementation team to ensure that it meets all of the requirements. Once the system is deployed, the Systems Engineer manages the technical aspects of the system, including monitoring performance, troubleshooting problems, and making improvements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all technical aspects of product or system design including directing multiple lab resources for large scale product or system deployments
  • Manage sub-contractor resources supporting all system engineering areas (definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, systems analysis and implementation)
  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of high complexity to include defining and refining internal and external interfaces
  • Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes
  • Validate security control configurations on systems and ensure all systems are configured with proper controls, such as STIGS, CMMC, and other similar requirements
  • Collaborate with sponsors and other key stakeholders to derive tasks from detailed requirements, and provide tasking to other team members based off of the derived tasks


Additional Responsibilities

  • In concert with government leadership, define SIWG agenda, solicit briefings from the community, and follow up on activities to ensure success.
  • Represent C2ISR division on AF level C2BM and C2ISR working groups and Integrated Product Teams ensuring that C2ISR division requirements are supported.
  • Work with individual program IPTs within the C2ISR community to ensure that systems integration aspects of the program are considered and adhered to using sound Systems Engineering practices.
  • Provide requirements for technical integration and test aspects of product or system design efforts including the utilization of multiple test facility resources for large scale product or system development and sustainment.
  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of high complexity to include defining and refining internal and external interfaces
  • Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing system attributes
  • Facilitate and communicate systems engineering integration goals to C2ISR program level IPTs.
  • Support the integration of USAF Digital Engineering principles and requirements into C2ISR division processes.
  • Ensure that integration documentation produced by C2ISR program IPTs supports effective inter-system integration requirements.
  • Interact regularly with C2ISR and C3BM community sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Develop appropriate systems engineering and program management strategies for implementing requirements across a broad range of programs and initiatives.
  • Interact regularly with program teams for enterprise-wide, multi-year programs.
  • Research and recommend systems engineering and integration policies, principles, and practices.
  • Coordinate, resolve, or assist in resolution of conflicts and other issues within and between program teams and recommend/provide solutions.
  • Prepare reports and other associated programs or program documentation.
  • May serve as liaison with industry and various other groups to disseminate appropriate information.


Required Minimum Qualifications

* Familiarity with DoD C2ISR weapon systems.
* Relevant experience in systems engineering of large enterprise systems.
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Strong organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance
  • Masters degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Experience in establishing system architectures of large software intensive systems
  • A proven record of managing large complex tasks, including planning and tracking staffing, schedule, and financial data.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills and ability to interface effectively with engineers, managers, and civilian and military customers.
  • Fifteen (15) years of relevant full-time experience working in the DoD or on DoD programs.


Travel Requirements

10% - 25% travel


Education and Length of Experience

  • 9 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or any related Engineering degree.
  • 7 years of related experience with a Masters' degree in Computer Science or any related Engineering degree.
  • 4 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Computer Science or any related Engineering degree.


U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.


Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
