GW's Division for Student Affairs engages and supports student learning by creating and fostering communities that promote personal development. The Community Coordinator (CC) is responsible for implementing the vision, mission, goals, and priorities of Campus Living and Residential Education (
CLRE) at the George Washington University in the residence halls for residential students. CCs are responsible for the oversight of a residential community and serve as a point of contact for residential students. CCs develop the community environment and identity of their residence hall. CCs provide high-level customer service and direct supervision of different types of part-time staff to facilitate the development of communities, foster a sense of belonging, promote health and wellbeing, and support the residents' learning.
CCs coordinate interventions and high-level support to students and their families, manage complex incidents and resident needs, and collaborate with stakeholders across the university to ensure students thrive as members of the GW community. This position includes responsibility for a variety of administrative, operational, and conference-related functions associated with the management of the residence halls. During the summer, CCs oversee the management of summer residential students, which includes interns, short-term and long-term stays, and summer students.
Position Summary:
- Manages residence hall daily needs and operations, including community development, building operations, occupancy management, seasonal transitions, and community and student behavioral support.
- Advise, support, and help recruit hall council members in assigned residential communities.
- Provide direct supervision of part-time undergraduate and/or graduate staff within their residential communities.
- Develop a personal knowledge of individual residents to better provide resources and referrals related to supporting residents. Develop a response to and manage room/suitemate conflicts and mediations, including student and parent/guardian follow-up. This includes facilitating the roommate success plan process throughout the academic year.
- Build and maintain student-success oriented relationships with Living-Learning Community partners, faculty-in-residence, residential student leadership organizations (Residence Hall Association and National Residence Hall Honorary), and other campus partners both within and outside of the Division for Student Affairs.
- Implement CLRE's outcomes-based learning strategy (Residential Curriculum), Rev UP@Home, including, but not limited to, planning and implementing planning and implementing educational programs, social programs, off-campus opportunities, listening circles, engaging in intentional interactions, and supervising different types of part-time staff in their execution of the strategy.
- Oversee a residential community budget for all programmatic initiatives.
- Serve on departmental focus areas and/or work on special projects to support the success of the Division for Student Affairs, including, but not limited to orientations, training and staff development, programming, communications, move-in/move-out, summer conference housing, and staff recruitment and selection.
- Work with the following offices to manage community standards, adjudicate conduct meetings, and support students needing additional support: Conflict Education & Student Accountability, Student Outreach & Support, and Counseling and Psychological Services, and local and university law enforcement.
- Uphold and help develop university behavior policy and role model community standards. Serve as part of a 24/7 rotating on-call system to respond to urgent residential needs, campus emergencies, or other incidents in the residence halls. This includes writing incident reports, engaging in community walks, and escalating incidents as needed.
- Provide support for the Division for Student Affairs-wide projects and initiatives, including new student orientation, student success initiatives, and university events/traditions, as well as participating in and supporting special events and activities and representing unit/division at university-wide events.
Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Qualified candidates are required to live on campus as a condition of employment. |

This position is a live-in position and will require weekend and after-hours work. Hours for this position may vary and allow for flexibility, but generally occur Monday-Friday between 10:00 am - 9:00 pm. Community Coordinators may be required to assist with incidents after-hours and on weekends |
Preferred Qualifications: |
- Master's Degree in higher education administration, counseling, or related field is preferred.
- Ability to establish a strong presence in the community in which the CC lives and the greater GW community.
- Genuine Interest and enthusiasm for direct student interaction with a demonstrated understanding of student learning and success.
- Previous supervision, advisement, and development experience for part-time undergraduate and graduate staff is desired.
- Willingness to disrupt traditional or convenient practices to create more equitable and student-centered experiences for all residents.
- Case management and intervention coordination in response to resident needs and family inquiries.
- Strong customer service, critical thinking, consensus building, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to anticipate and successfully manage all aspects of a residential community.
- Proven collaborative work with external departments, faculty, and campus partners.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability and comfortability in working through conflict, change, and uncertainty.
- Creative planning and development of initiatives that connect students in residence halls to the larger GW and DC communities.
- Willingness to contribute to collective decision-making processes and engage in creative and new solutions.
- Interest in learning and implementing summer conference needs and management in a residential setting.
