About the Job

Responsibilities:
APEC 3081 - Perspectives on Economic and Social Issues Affecting Indigenous Communities will be offered in Fall semester 2025 to be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00-4:15 for the period 9/2/25-12/10/25. The course will analyze the historical and contemporary factors that have contributed to the special economic circumstances and institutions of indigenous communities. It will touch on indigenous community issues worldwide but will focus on the United States, and to some extent, Minnesota.
We are hiring a Senior Lecturer (job class 9770) to co-teach the course with Dr. Elton Mykerezi. Responsibilities will include:
40% - Create course content, syllabi, lectures, assignments, and exams for the course.
30% - Provide classroom instruction for an undergraduate course APEC 3081.
20% - Maintain office hours and meet with individual students.
10% - Evaluate student performance and provide final grades.

Qualifications

Required:
Ph.D. in applied economics, agricultural economics, economics, or related field. Two or more years of university-level teaching experience.

Preferred:
* Demonstrated experience with the subject matter of the course.
* Experience in economics, applied economics, or related fields in private, public or government sector settings.
* Demonstrated effectiveness in interdisciplinary settings and engagement with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
* Excellence in teaching and advising post-secondary and adult learners.

About the Department

The Department of Applied Economics (APEC) supports the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Science's (CFANS) and the University of Minnesota's land-grant mission through its teaching, research, and extension programs. APEC's teaching programs include Bachelor of Science degrees in Applied Economics and Agricultural & Food Business Management, and Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Applied Economics. Its research and extension focus are broadly defined as Food Systems; Development, Growth, & Trade; Environmental & Resource Economics; and Public Sector Economics.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $7,035 for fall semester period; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
