Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The
UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Social Work, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students. The School has built a reputation for its continued pursuit of excellence, rigorous education and training programs, cutting-edge multidisciplinary research, progressive pharmacy practices, efficient business operations, and its outstanding faculty, staff, and students. Position Summary |
This Senior Director of Human Resources and Engagement serves as the principal Human Resources (HR) lead within the
UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. In this capacity, the position incumbent is responsible for providing overall direction of human resources operations, support across all employee types, and for serving as a strategic partner with other School leaders. This includes interpretation of University HR policies, providing consultation and advice on HR issues and concerns, and developing and implementing both local and the institutions HR strategies and plans within the work unit. The HR lead serves as the principal liaison between the School and key University central offices regarding HR-related matters including the Office of Human Resources (
OHR), Academic Personnel, the
EEO/
ADA Office, University Payroll Services, and Office of University Counsel. The position will supervise subordinate human resources staff and be responsible for assuring that the unit's personnel actions and activities are compliant with relevant Federal, State, and University policies and support the institutions equal opportunity and diversity goals. The position incumbent will be responsible for integrating HR best practices within the School and serve as an advocate to and active participant in the University's community of HR professionals. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Broad knowledge of applicable human resources laws and regulations
- Knowledge of and experience with varied human resource information systems
- Broad knowledge of complex personnel, compensation and related policies and procedures for employees
- Demonstrated management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others
- Proven ability to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to innovate and develop creative solutions which may have no precedent
- Strong decision making, analytical, problem solving, critical thinking and resource management skills |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Active engagement in national professional organizations related to the field of human resources
- Skills to work collaboratively with other campus locations
- In-depth knowledge of university policies and operational procedures is preferred |

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
