Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Joint Cyber Command and Control (JCC2) Release Train Engineer (RTE) directly supporting the Cryptologic Systems Division at Lackland AFB, TX.

WORK LOCATION: San Antonio, TX

JOB STATUS: Full-time; salaried

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Top Secret clearance and may need to obtain a polygraph

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field; 8+ years of experience in large-scale system delivery, with at least 3-5 years in Agile/SAFe environments.

  • Certifications: SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification required; additional SAFe certifications (SPC, SA, SASM) or PMI-ACP, CSM, or PMP preferred.

  • Domain Expertise: Proven experience in cyber operations, defense systems, or mission-critical IT programs with strong understanding of Joint Cyber Warfighting Architecture (JCWA) or equivalent.

  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with Agile lifecycle management tools (e.g., Rally, Jira, Confluence), backlog management, and cross-team dependency management in complex, multi-vendor environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Agile Release Train (ART) Execution:
    Lead and facilitate all major SAFe ceremonies, including PI Planning, ART Syncs, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt workshops, ensuring alignment with mission priorities and delivery of JCC2 application capabilities.

  • Program Increment (PI) Planning and Delivery:
    Coordinate cross-functional teams to define PI objectives, manage program-level dependencies, and ensure commitments are met across the range of Cyber-Warfighter operations.

  • Backlog and Flow Management:
    Partner with Product Management and System Architects to maintain a well-defined program backlog, facilitate prioritization, and optimize delivery flow across teams supporting JCC2 applications (JCO, JCC2-Readiness, MADSS, Rally, ThreatHub, and others as directed).

  • Impediment and Risk Management:
    Identify, track, and remove systemic impediments impacting ART execution. Facilitate risk management processes (ROAMing risks) and escalation to the Solution Train or PMO when required.

  • Capability Integration and Delivery:
    Ensure seamless integration of JCC2 capabilities into cyber operational workflows, from planning through execution to post-mission activities. Align development output with operational requirements and JCWA-driven initiatives.

  • Metrics and Continuous Improvement:
    Collect, analyze, and report on ART-level performance metrics (e.g., predictability, throughput, velocity). Facilitate Inspect & Adapt sessions to drive continuous improvement across teams and programs.

  • Stakeholder and PMO Collaboration:
    Serve as the primary point of coordination between ART teams, PMO, and external stakeholders. Support capability integration, acquisition planning, and long-term system roadmaps to address evolving requirements from JCWA and internally generated initiatives.
