The position of Ag Insurance Specialist I is responsible for sales and service of crop & livestock insurance policies and programs through its insurance subsidiary, Nicolet Insurance Services, LLC which makes services available to eligible farmers in compliance with insurance company and program requirements.
As an Ag Insurance Specialist, you will:


  • Engages in business development activities and solicitation of new crop & livestock insurance business; actively involved in instilling and maintaining a positive sales environment through education of Nicolet's crop & livestock insurance products and services. Seeks out new clients and develops clientele by networking to find new customers and generate lists of prospective clients.
  • Assures all duties are performed in accordance with applicable banking and insurance compliance regulations, processes, and procedures. Works with other areas in Nicolet to ensure integrated compliance where necessary.
  • Interviews prospective applicants and requests specified information required to complete applications for coverage, and other Nicolet required information. Obtains data about their financial resources and their risk management needs.
  • Works with bankers in the ag department to educate them on program provisions and changes to help manage credit risk and spot opportunities for increased sales.
  • Accurately completes and submits all required documentation on a timely basis to qualify applicants for desired coverages.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, and programs to learn about new products and services, learn new skills, and receive technical assistance in developing new accounts.
  • Confers with clients to obtain and provide necessary information when claims are made on a policy. Coordinates claims adjustment process to assure satisfactory and fair claims settlement is provided by the company to clients.
  • Customizes insurance programs to suit individual customer needs, often covering a variety of risks and risk management scenarios.
  • Develops marketing strategies to compete with other individuals or companies who sell crop insurance.
  • Regularly assesses crop insurance company performance and commission structure and looks for ways to maximize both client satisfaction and program profitability.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed, such as maintaining records and handling required documentation for the bank and the insurance companies.
  • Assists the rest of the ag department in marketing all Nicolet's services to the ag community.
  • Uphold Nicolet's philosophy and policies by maintaining appropriate controls to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations, thereby fulfilling legal responsibilities and enhancing the quality of services provided by Nicolet.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Agricultural Business, or Finance preferred.
  • 3+ years related experience and/or training, or the equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Work related experience should consist of ag oriented sales with a strong preference for crop insurance sales and service experience.
  • Hands on agriculture background required.
  • Able to get and maintain required state insurance licenses and completes continuing education training required by insurance companies and the state.
  • Intermediate experience, knowledge, and training in crop insurance program requirements preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of the commercial/ag lending area, including prudent underwriting standards, regulatory implications, and pricing considerations.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the time to meet with prospects and monitor loan relationships.
  • Intermediate knowledge of related state and federal insurance and compliance regulations, and other related Bank policies preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, developments, and related technologies.
  • Ability to think critically, solve problems, make decisions, and build trust across the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across the organization and interact/influence/negotiate effectively at all levels of management and peers, as well as third party relationships and vendors.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to calculate numerous financial ratios.
