Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Post-Transplant Inpatient Service

The MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute is seeking a qualified Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Transplant Surgery team. This role is responsible for providing comprehensive inpatient care, ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards, and leading a section of APPs in alignment with organizational goals.

• Lead and support a team of Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants to ensure delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

• Provide comprehensive healthcare services to post-transplant patients in the inpatient setting.

• Collaborate with physicians, APPs, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

• Participate in quality improvement and performance initiatives, providing resources and guidance to enhance patient care.

• Contribute to the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.

• Demonstrate flexibility in performing additional tasks within the APP scope of practice, including participation in long surgical interventions and related physical demands.

• Minimum of 36 months of clinical experience as an APP in a related healthcare setting.

• Current, unrestricted licensure in the District of Columbia as one of the following:

  • Physician Assistant (PA): Master's degree from an ARC-PA-approved program; NCCPA certification required. Bachelor's degree with 10 years of active PA experience may be considered with approval from the Director of the Office of Advanced Practice.

  • Nurse Practitioner (NP): Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited program; current national certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner required.

• Federal DEA licensure.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (must be American Heart Association endorsed upon first renewal).

• ACLS, PALS, or NRP certification may be required, depending on department assignment (must be AHA endorsed upon first renewal).

• Demonstrated ability to work independently with sound clinical judgment, while functioning effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Proficiency with clinical information systems, patient care equipment, and standard office technologies.

• Knowledge of healthcare policies and societal factors affecting patient care delivery.
