Essential Functions & Primary Duties:
*Drive the creation and maintenance of an enterprise data glossary, ensuring consistent business definitions across systems and stakeholders.
*Design, document, and update data dictionaries and data maps for critical enterprise datasets to support data understanding and trust.
*Lead the implementation and configuration of Microsoft Purview in partnership with the security team, enabling effective data cataloging, lineage tracking, and data discovery.
*Collaborate with business, technical, and security teams to establish data stewardship roles, ownership, and accountability.
*Develop and enforce data governance policies and standards (metadata, privacy, classification, retention, quality).
*Conduct data quality assessments, establish metrics, and help remediate issues in collaboration with engineering and analytics teams.
*Work with legal, compliance, and IT stakeholders to ensure data policies meet regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
*Provide stakeholder reporting on governance activities, catalog adoption, and data quality improvements.

Preferred Qualifications:
*Demonstrated knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, CMMI), policies, and best practices.
*Experience with data cataloging and data lineage tools (such as Azure Purview, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or Microsoft Purview).
*Strong understanding of data privacy and security regulations (GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, SOX, etc.) and experience helping teams ensure compliance.
*Hands-on experience developing, implementing, or maintaining data quality metrics and controls.
*Familiarity with master data management (MDM) and reference data concepts.
*Ability to collaborate with data owners, business stewards, and IT to define and maintain data definitions, data standards, and business glossaries.
*Proficiency in writing and interpreting SQL (for profiling, monitoring, and analyzing data quality and governance issues).
*Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and organizational skills.
*Prior exposure to cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is a plus.
*Experience with or understanding of data engineering/ETL processes is a plus.
*Knowledge of BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for stewardship or lineage reporting is beneficial.
*Previous experience in a regulated industry (finance, healthcare, etc.) is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:
*College Degree or equivalent required (ideally in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field)
*3 years related experience in data governance, data management, data stewardship, or related roles.
*Ability to lead and coordinate the team activities of others
*Proficient use of applicable technology
*Ability to execute and draft technical instructions and guidelines
*Ability to document daily activities and system functions
*Able to work in a team environment
*Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of an organization, both internally and externally
*Ability to travel as required by business and on-call availability
