Overview

TRC is currently seeking a Civil/Environmental Project Engineer with an interest in supporting broad-based engineering projects to join our Northern New England Engineering, Consulting, and Remediation Team. This mid-level career-oriented position is required to provide operational, permitting, compliance, design, and construction services to a wide variety of clients. Our engineering staff provide engineering design and technical support on challenging projects including site design and land development, renewable energy development, solid waste management, and environmental assessment and remediation.

As a Project Engineer, the successful candidate will apply their existing knowledge and develop new skills while working as part of a dynamic and collaborative team. The position focuses on assisting clients to comply with various environmental regulations and addressing their permitting challenges by working with project teams to perform analyses and to develop and implement plans, designs, and specifications. A desire to work with internal business development professionals and senior managers to establish and grow a sustainable client base is required.


Responsibilities

The position sits within a multi-disciplinary team that provides broad-based engineering design and consulting services for a wide variety of projects. Responsibilities include engineering design, team support, and task management on a variety of projects. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Working with Project Managers, junior & senior level engineers to:
    • Conduct hydrologic analyses to support planning, development, permitting and design of stormwater management systems;
    • Design stormwater management systems adapted for specific development sectors in accordance with applicable local, state, or federal regulations;
    • Perform civil/site design and planning to support various land development projects;
    • Prepare grading and erosion and sedimentation control plans;
    • Prepare technical design reports, compliance reports, and permit application packages;
    • Prepare construction and industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs);
    • Prepare Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans;
    • Prepare Analysis of Brownfield Clean-up Alternatives (ABCA) and Soil Management Plans;
    • Prepare engineer's construction cost estimates;
    • Design and assist with implementation of site remediation measures;
    • Attend and present project designs and applications at various Planning Board/AHJ meetings,
    • Support solid waste and landfill engineering projects including landfill design, landfill permitting, leachate collection system design, landfill capacity analysis calculations, cell development and waste placement plans, and other operational support; and
    • Prepare natural resource permit application packages including the design of wetland and stream restoration, mitigation, and replication projects.
  • Work with designers and permitting specialists to prepare design packages for a wide variety of projects supporting developers, facilities, and infrastructure that comply with applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Manage tasks and delegate tasks to junior level staff.
  • Ability to prepare and manage budgets and schedules.
  • Manage the work performance for multiple dynamic projects, develop solutions to project challenges, and communicate proactively with senior staff.
  • Assist clients in addressing their development challenges and goals by working with project teams across multiple disciplines to perform site specific analyses and assessments.
  • Apply quality assurance and quality control procedures.
  • Ability to make decisions and perform as an independent thinker and leader but also collaborate with project team personnel.
  • Work directly with clients professionally and display service-oriented attitude.
  • Willingness to build a sustaining practice and engage in business development efforts including being active in professional organizations.
  • Advance career knowledge by attending continuing educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies, etc.
  • Travel (typically 10 to 15%) throughout the US, primarily in New England.
  • Interest or experience managing projects is not required; however, Project Management opportunities are available with this position if desired by the prospective candidate.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of proven engineering or consulting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering field from an accredited university
  • Professional engineering license (or ability to obtain within 12 months) preferred but not required
  • Experience independently analyzing and interpreting data, site constraints, uses, and characteristics to develop design solutions
  • A fundamental knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar, to competently work with junior level engineers using this software
  • A strong understanding of local, state, and federal level permitting for various development types
  • Client service skills
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent technical/computer skills required
  • Ability to work in a team environment and on multiple projects at the same time
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle records check,

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
